Helps with timing of meds please.

Hi, I got a prescription yesterday for ferrous fumarate and I'm getting one for B12 but it's a special order so hasn't arrived yet. As I have to take the ferrous fumarate 210g 3 x a day I am wondering how to space things out. I have to take the ferrous fumarate with food so was going to take them at breakfast, lunch and dinner, I think the B12 has to be taken between meals so was going to take mid morning. I take my levothyroxine before bed and loestrin (contraceptive pill to stop my heavy periods) at breakfast. I also take vitamin D and folic acid, my levels of these are at the high end so this is maintenance dose, could I take these with a snack in the afternoon? And I was thinking about taking a magnesium supplement, not sure where to fit that one in, there just aren't enough hours in the day! Also is it okay to take 1000mg of vitamin C with my iron 3 x a day or should I just take it twice a day? Any help in coordinating these would be much appreciated.

Romyhorse,

If vitD and folic acid are at the high end of range you don't need to supplement. VitD is optimal around 100nmol/L and folic acid around halfway through range.

It's fine to take 1,000mg vitamin C with each FF dose. If you find bowels become loose reduce vitC dose.

Magnesium should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Thank you Clutter. I think my vit D and folate are good because I have been taking 25mcg (1000iu) vitamin D and 400 mcg folic acid for 8 months and am worried if I stop taking these my levels will drop. My vitamin D is 125nmol/L and folate is 14.6ng/mL.

Romyhorse,

Well neither of those are top of range so yes its fine to continue supplementing if you can squeeze them in around your other meds and supplements but you don't need to take vitD or folic acid with those levels.
