Advice please - taking T3 meds at the same time at Levothyroxine meds

Hi,

I have started taking T3 meds for 4 weeks now,( such a long name, not Armour) and take them alongside levothryoxine, but I think I have seen on here, to take at different times?

I take on empty tummy, no coffee/tea for at least an hour..

its such a mission to get the right meds..currently my T4 levels are 0.02 aswell...really struggling with local team, so T3 meds are privately sourced seperatly.

I am playing with fire?!

Little miss, I think you mean to say that your TSH is 0.02 and not ft4 as you put It is fine to take your levothyroxine at the same time as your t3. Was the long name liothyronine?

Folks on here discuss splitting the dose of t3 rather than taking it all in one go. Some take it as one dose along with their levothyroxine, others split it into 2 or 3 doses. I split both my levo and my t3 doses. I take 50mcg levo and 5mcg t3 when I wake and then 50mcg levo and 2.5mcg t3 at bedtime.

Thank you :) Yes thats the long name, I'm only taking 5mcg dose at the mo. trialing for 3 months ! and yes, TSH is 0.02.

Tsh tends to be very low like that when you take liothyronine. Not many can keep their TSH in the normal range.

I take my 100 mcg Levothyroxine and 20 mcg Liothyronine all at once before bed. I found no benefit from splitting my dose. We are all different so it’s trial and error. You are only on a very small dose of T3.

I take both at the same time and have for years. Do you really want to wait 2 hours or forget which one you took? Just be consistent. Continue to take both at the same time for a few months & then get tested. If dosage change is needed keep taking them same time, just change dose.

"its such a mission to get the right meds."

This is a non technical answer but it's important. It could take a couple of years! The enthusiasm and knowledge of your doctor will be the largest factor so it is important to be prepared to do a lot of the research yourself. Any one experiment (change of dosage, brand of medication etc) could take three months to stabilise so do not get anxious if it seems to be taking too long. You have come to the right place for information, there are dozens of people all over the world who will have had experience and good outcomes with any problem you will likely encounter.

And, are you playing with fire? Not if you are very careful and take things slowly. Make changes gradually and observe the effects. Be prepared to back up if something seems not to work, don't give up the experiment altogether, you probably overdid it and exceeded a critical point. Read up as much as you can and don't always believe your doctor/endocrinologist, the latter (the endos) are very good at diabetes but know beans about the thyroid. Research everything they say, keep up with everything that the doctor is suggesting.

thank you :) Yes, I agree with you about endos about knowing more about diabetes ..I have now gone down funtional doctor ( whom is a GP as well), and she has given me lots of info. about T3 tablets and given up with local endos and being fobbed off.

Thank you to everyone on here, its a tough road to navigate.

I am on 100 mcg levothyroxine and 10 mcg liothyronine (5 mcg am/5 mcg pm). I usually take the Levo and morning 5 at least an hour before breakfast and the night Lio with B12 and D3 at bedtime. Although I feel a bit hypo my TSH continues to be <.02.
