Almost 5 years diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and I finally feel I may be making some headway.

I was diagnosed by chance thinking I had a stomach disorder and commenced treatment after blood results showed hypothyroidism. Settling on 175mg levothyroxine per day but I was still not right. Peaks and troughs through the year, sometimes 3 or 4 times a year. Weight gain only reduced by high protein low carb dieting.

Couldn't eat sweet or starchy foods and weight was ballooning.

The Endo diagnosed low Vit D and after commencing treatment for that I found my stomach problem was greatly diminished but many symptoms continued.

Finally, today, I walked into the consultation with nothing to loose. I'd had such a bad few months that whilst civility remained, patience was long gone.

To be fair to the doctor, she was a straight talking no bull lady and I respected that. She also answered my questions with conviction, information and confidence.

There were things that I wanted ( additional testosterone tests for example) that she initially dismissed but then agreed to conduct and there were things I was told to stop being overly concerned about ( my now, only slightly low Vit D levels) but the cherry was when she asked: "So is it T3 you want?"

I felt like a drug crazed maniac, all I wanted to do was scream in delight, YES YES YES finally I can really work to bring myself out of this hole, YES YES YES. Oh, the rapturous noise in my head was overwhelming.... " If you think that's best" I responded. Where the hell did that come from you smooth SOB!

I walked out with a royally chewed ear and to say I had been put in my place is an understatement but we reached a mutually agreeable conclusion and she had taken the time to impart the knowledge to explain her responses. I now commence the long complex road of T3/T4 combination treatment but with a spring in my step ( a small one due to cramps this week) and a determined mindset.
