Good morning everyone, well after been told by my endo that because i am in range he wont put me on 75mcg! I spoke to another endo yesterday and she knew that i was deficient in vitamin d and needed 60,000 units a week. But since my levels went back to normal my own dr didn't keep me on a maintenance dose! So yest when she looked on my bloods they havent been testing my vitamin d since i levelled again! So she thinks that because my thyroid levels are showing ok that my hashimotos have made me vitamin d deficient again, so requested i have a full blood test on Monday and check for everything! In the mean time whist on 50mcg can i have any energy drinks to perk me up till i get sorted?
Back to the Dr's to check vitamin d.: Good... - Thyroid UK
Back to the Dr's to check vitamin d.
Sorry meant to say i was on 60,000 units for 2 months then nothing for 3 months.
Lottie08,
GP practices don't usually continue prescribing or monitoring once a deficiency is corrected. Once your vitD level is good you can buy your own vitD to maintain levels. Most people need to supplement 2,500iu Oct-April to maintain levels when unltraviolet light is too low to stimulate natural vitD.
Ok great thank you will see what my results say next week, shall i self medicate now and take 2,000 units a day then?
Lottie08,
No you should wait until you have the results of the vitD test your endo has requested your GP does.
Ok thank you, just want to get sorted and feel better again and get back to normal as i can 😊
Lottie08,
You don't even know yet whether vitD level is low and needs supplementing
Thats why i am having a full blood count to see whats going on and why im feeling so rubbish 😊
A full blood count is NOT a vitamin D test.
A full blood count just looks at red cells, white cells and platelets.
Your GP or endo specifically needs to state they want your vitamin D tested as well.
Anyway once you have had your vitamin D test start a new thread and you will get advice on how to keep your vitamin D up and maintained over 75nmol/L.
Yes she has asked for vitamin d as well as b12.
Post that result as well with the range when you get it.
Posters here are good about telling you how to keep up your levels. The NHS won't help you as it isn't their job to do preventative medicine. It is a bit weird as the NHS will treat severe deficiencies but then leave it to you to ensure you don't get severely deficient again.
I will do thank you, i am still baffled as to why endos and drs don't listen to how a patient feels 😏🤔 and to have alot of knowledge on it.
Because clearly as a human being, particularly a female one or a young one, you don't know your own body. After all any symptoms you have are all in the mind and all signs are manifestations of these symptoms.
OK that's an exaggeration but historically doctors were revered so had no need to listen to patients.
Tagging on here pls can u get iodine tested by gp??
Very unlikely.
Also always start your own thread even if you are just asking a simple question - it is the netiquette on most forums.
