"And is my ferritin in range?"

You haven't given the range so it's not really possible to answer. Some ranges start at 13 or 15, some start at 30. If you're is below range you need an iron panel and full blood count to see if you have iron deficiency anaemia. Generally ferritin needs to be 70 for thyroid hormone to work.

If your endo says you need more iron in your diet, didn't he prescribe iron tablets? You can raise ferritin by eating liver once a week, maximum 200g.

As for Vit D, what is the unit of measurement? If it's Nmol/L then according to the Vit D Council the recommended level is between 100-150nmol/L.

Is there a typo here, I don't understand what you mean -

"why did he tell me to drink vitamin d those units ?"

Endo told you to up your dose of what?

How quickly your ferritin level will increase is an individual thing. It took a good few months for mine to rise. Here is a list of iron rich foods, include as much as you can

But you haven't said what the range is for your ferritin. That is important. If your level of 24 is very low or below range then, as I said, you need an iron panel and full blood count to see if you have iron deficiency anaemia. It's not all about the ferritin level.

No, 24 is the result. The range will look something like 13-150, or 30-200 or similar. It's important to know how low in the range for are or if you are below range.

Ari53,

VitD is replete >75 but a maintenance dose of 1-2,000iu daily is required Oct-Mar otherwise levels will drop during the autumn and winter when ultraviolet light is too low to stimulate natural vitD.

Ferritin 24 is low. >70 is required for hair regrowth and 100 - halfway through range is optimal. You can raise ferritin by eating iron rich food and supplementing iron taken with 1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation.

VitD and iron should be taken 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

Hello Clutter,

Sorry for late reply been working :) I am not on any thyroid medication at the minute because Levothyroxine caused me massive side effects (muscle joint pain achne went worse hair fell off etc) and I stopped it.I found private endo and he diognosed me with thyroditis and hormonal imbalance.he said in order to treat my thyroid I have to get my hormons in balance. Now I need to do my bloods for three weeks for him to observe me and than I will start my course of treatment .From bloods he told me that iam low in ferritin (24)and I need to maintain my vitamin d (85).But what worries me is that I have lots of vitamin d now so will my vitamin d supliment won’t make me vitamin d toxic?

Ari3,

You don't have lots of vitD, 85 is just over replete. Possible toxicity isn't likely until vitD is >250.

Ari3 if you are in the UK there are 4 brands of Levothyroxine available. If one doesn't suit you should try the alternatives to see whether they are better.

Because I have thyroiditis(my thyroid goes up and down) he told me that I don’t need to be on thyroid medication. He told me that I have enough of T4 in my body.He prescribed me two medications to take them for 6 months while monitoring my situation by taking bloods every months.I used to lose hairs all these years used to be very dry and dandruff’s , dry skin cold hands feet constipation u name it.He said it is something to do with hormones and it’s important to get them in place in order for thyroid to funcion properly.

Ari3,

It depends what the fluctuation is. If TSH is frequently >5.0 then thyroid replacement will usually be helpful.
