Should i test before i supplement?
Clairewalker751,
You shouldn't take anything with Levothyroxine. For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements, magnesium and oestrogen.
I wouldn't take calcium without having a blood test first. You don't need to supplement calcium unless you have hypocalcaemia. I'm not sure about vitamin E, I really don't know enough about it. I think its fine to take the other supplements without testing.
Thanks clutter i started taking selenium and Vit E with Levo as it was advised in root cause book by Isabella wentz? The book recommends several supplements but i don't want to be doing more harm than good? I've only been on Levo 6 weeks and am awaiting recent bloods just want to help myself as much as possible as GP only seems interested in TSH? I'm improved but still have severe aches and pains i also get hot flashes at night, i am perimenopausal and was taking nutrition fx for this but stopped?? The more i read the more i become confused? Thank you
Clairewalker751,
It's fine to take those supplements but not at the same time as Levothyroxine. Taking other medication, supplements, food and drink with Levothyroxine can reduce absorption.
Thanks clutter i will stop the selenium and Vit E with Levo and wait for an hour thanks to this site i have always waited an hour to eat and drink
