Thyroid test results from Endo

Have now received the results:

TSH 0.82, FT4 16.3, FT3 3.9

He has described me a being clinically euthyroid currently?

He reccomends trial for 3-6months of Liothyronine 10mcg twice daily and cut back Levothyroxine from 75mcg to 50mcg for this period.

Test after 6 weeks and follow up with endo in 4 months.

I am now awaiting contact from GP with a prescription, any comments/advice greatly appreciated.

Euthyroid means results are within range. You are euthyroid but FT3 is low in range which is why your endo has introduced T3.

20mcg T3 is equivalent to 60mcg T4 so your endo has effectively raised your dose. 20mcg T3 will raise your FT3. You can take your first 10mcg dose with 50mcg Levothyroxine and the second 10mcg dose at bedtime.

T3, like Levothyroxine, should be taken with water 1 hour before, or 2 hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements and oestrogen.

GP should prescribe if a NHS endo recommends T3. May not agree if endo is private.

If GP won't prescribe post a question requesting sources for obtaining T3 without prescription.

Congratulations on having an endo who appears to know what they're doing.

I'm lucky enough to have one of those too!

My GP does not question my prescription for T3 as it is deemed a necessary requirement by my endo.
