Hello there. I bought MSM for my husband's hip issues last Summer and arthritis. I have not taken it because i am waiting for my body to fully adjust to the new Synthroid dose and the addition of T3 before starting that. It is suppose to be great for acne & inflammation in my joints. Have any of you tried or currently take MSM?

Did it work for you husband? I've often wondered about MSM.

So far so good. You have to start with a very small amount and increase gradually. For therapeutic use it has to be larger doses which he is not there yet, but it seems to be relieving the cramping. He had hip surgery last December.

You mean topically? We bought the MSM pure powder and he mixes it with Vit C for absorption. We need it internally.

It also makes a good moisturiser for face by also adding 1/2 teaspoon of vit c powder. Home made vit c serum

Did you buy loose powder? Or capsules?

Could you give us some dosing information please.

Loose powder 3 tablespoons of alloe vera and 1 teaspoon MSM powder mix well leave for 30 minutes and mix again. All the grains dissolve this way.

humanbean we bought pure organic MSM powder. I researched a lot and they say the powder or the Flakes are absorbed better and you get more of the MSM than the capsules. YOU start of my taking 1/8 teaspoons and every week move up a quarter of a teaspoon until you are at 1 full a day. from there you need to play with the dose as an individual for your own theraputic needs. everyone is different. The first few wks are detoxing. If you have side effects of head aches or diarrhea or anything gastro, stop the mSM and then after a day or so go back to the previous dose before the issue for another week before increasing. It happened to my husband. He did this and it worked as they said. It just means that you increased too quickly. Do some research on dosing. It is very safe and natural, but they claim you should not drink alcohol on it. It intensifies everything. I read about a girl who would go out once and a while for drinks. Had a tolerance. Started MSM and went days later for drinks..... could not walk after 2 drinks, it was like drinking 10!!!!! There is a Utube video online of her explaining everything. Scary!

Thanks for the info. The alcohol isn't an issue for me - it was one of the things I ditched as my health deteriorated and I haven't had a drink for several years.

I'm quite surprised at how low a dose it is necessary to start at, but better safe than sorry. I'm sure I read last night about people starting on a full teaspoon!

yes that is right, some start with more but it is not advised because it detoxes your system first before starting to help and treat ailments. I have done tons of research. You can have major gastro issues. Working up to a spoonful or more depending on what you need is highly advised by health professionals.

I take about 10g of MSM a day. It (with other things) seems to have cured my asthma. I didn't get it for joint problems, but as source of sulphur. Been taking it for many years. I don't think you can get a high enough dose with capsules, you need the crystals.

I took MSM powder for about 6 months, gradually increasing the dose, but saw no difference at all.

they say some people need a very high dose and should work with a nature path for that depending on what you need it for. Or maybe it wasn't the real stuff. We got ours from Earthshift.
