Have posted a couple of times on here and the replies have been really helpful. Have had my blood tests results done and just wonder what to do next? I wake up everyday feeling rough and have been since April rather poorly, shingles, chest infection, servere tonsillitis plus feeling rough, tired, and also thinking am I ever going to feel normal! Again. Blood results from blue horizon, Normal range

Seaside54 I imagine your low vitamins and minerals are contributing to how you're feeling.

B12 - 311 - too low. The Pernicious Anaemia Society recommends 1000. You can supplement with Solgar or Jarrows methylcobablamin sublingual lozenges, 5000mcg to start with and when you get up to a nice high level you can reduce to the 1000mcg dose. When supplementing with B12, you should also take a good B Complex to balance the B vits. Thorne Basic B and Jarrows B Right are both fine, and contain 400mcg folate (see Folate below).

Folate - 14.81 - too low, at least half way through range is recommended and that's about 26. Take one of the B Complex supplements recommended above and that should help bring your folate level up nicely.

Vit D - 25 - oh dear, you need this to be around 100+. I see you are supplementing. You haven't said what you're taking but I would recommend this one (it has no unnecessary stuff you don't need, just D3 and extra virgin olive oil) amazon.co.uk/Best-Vitamin-5... . I would start with 20,000iu daily for two weeks then drop down to 5,000iu daily. Retest before the end of the year and see where your level lies then. You can easily get a fingerprick blood spot test from City Assyas for Β£28 if you don't need to repeat your Blue Horizon test. I got my level to 150 and I now take 5,000iu alternate days, in the winter I might increase that to 5 days a week but I will retest before I increase.

When taking D3 we need to take K2. Vit D aids absorption of calcium, K2 directs the calcium to bones and teeth rather than arteries and soft tissues. Look for K2-MK7. This is the one I will be getting when my current supply runs out amazon.co.uk/dp/B0013OVVFA/... as I prefer soft gels to capsules.

Ferritin - 37 - again too low. This needs to be a minimum of 70, at least half way through range is recommended, preferably 100+. You need to get an iron supplement. If you don't find them too harsh on your tummy then ferrous fumarate or ferrous sulphatel contain 65mg elemental iron. If you get tummy upset or constipation then Iron Bisglycinate is a gentler form, such as Solgar Gentle Iron which contains 20 or 25mg elemental iron. Always take each dose of iron with 1000mg Vit C to aid absorption and help prevent constipation, and take 4 hours away from thyroid meds if you take them.

I see that you have taken medication for Graves in the past, that's really not my area of expertise so I can't really comment on your thyroid results, sorry.

Thank you so much Susie, it's so nice to have advice and feel like you are not going mad or being a hypochondriac. I feel whenever I go to the doctors, they think I am making it all up! I was just thinking I need to just deal with it now, it's so horrid feeling rubbish all the time. Will get there items ordered and feed back to you how things are going. Again thank you for you time in replying. Seaside54
