Blood test results, any advice would be gratefully received

Latest results with a TSH of 10.7 compared to 2.45 in June. I am currently taking 125mcg of Thyroxine (Eltroxin).

I am disappointed because I hoped my TSH levels might be within normal range. Since the end of April I have been supporting my husband on a detox diet he was recommended to help with arthritis and other conditions. This has meant I have cut out dairy, all fruit sugars and refined sugars, beef, pork, as well as gluten, alcohol and caffeine which I gave up 2 or more years ago. Finally, for the first time in 10 years I have lost a stone, and have been generally feeling better. I still have energy crashes, dry skin, thinning hair, but I think the brain fog is slightly better.

Would your advice be to increase to 150mcg and see how I get on?

You need carbs to effectively process the thyroid hormones so diets can have an effect - though it is great to lose weight.

When we are on medication we are best when our tsh is one or lower so you do need an increase in meds.

Thanks Lalatoot. I am still eating the carbs, just not gluten - but still slowly losing weight.

Can see, looking at previous posts, you use to be on 175mcg , before T3 was started and then stopped

Without T3 you are likely to need to increase dose.

Stepping Levothyroxine dose up to 150mcg and retest again after at least 6-8 weeks

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results.

Hi Slowdragon, thanks very much for your reply. You are right and I don’t know why I didn’t look back to pre T3 Thyroxine dose myself! I will increase to 150 now and test again in 6-8 weeks time. Appreciate your time looking back. Thank you.

Hi Islander,

As much as your on a detox with your husband you need to be careful and go over it with your GP as that can effect your Thyroid levels alot. Congratulations for loosing a stone. But it's best to get another blood test done .How long have you been on Thyroxin?

Thanks Beani, I’ve been on thyroxine for nearly 20 years! I’ll have another test in 6 - 8 weeks time.
