scorpio,

Genova Saliva Stress Test (test ref END01)

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Four saliva tests that measure the available "active" cortisol (& DHEA) secreted at set times over a 24 hours period. The results will allow you to see any imbalances in the daily circadian pattern so enabling use of correcting supplements to aid your adrenal health. Unfortunately this test is not generally used or recognised by GP's.

The cost is Β£77.00 which is a discounted price for ThyroidUK when code A42AQ is used.

You cannot get accurate saliva results while on any kind of medication or supplement that will affect cortisol. Examples of this would be: hydrocortisone, anti-anxiety meds, some anti-depressants, herbal adrenals supplements, asthma inhalers, prednisone, etc ... .

Only other stuff I take apart from the vits is het gel and a progesterone tab... Do you think any of what I list will affect this? Thanks I'm so sick of the heartburn and want to explore this... 😊

het gel ?? ...

Arrr ... Just worked it out.

HRT gel ! ! ... I think HRT possibly could effect cortisol results but I wouldn't stop medicating mine if conducting a stress saliva test ..... just be mindful that it might compromise result.

Scorpio,

Re heartburn, you may wish to explore Hypochlorhydria.

Low thyroid hormone encourages low stomach acid. If you have gut dysbiosis, this will further compromise your immune system allowing viral, fungal and bacterial infections.

Do not supplement Betaine with stomach ulcers or if medicating NSAIDS.

As far as I know I don't have ulcers, but I have a Gastro appt October.. I don't really want to wait until the end of the year to have the scopy thing, what would you suggest ? I was going to look at Betaine... Thanks for help

scorpio,

Read the link above and other members experiences - link below.

I have benefited hugely from supplementing Betaine with Pepsin. The two go together and good quality brands should offer a combo supplement.

If Betaine works for you, you won't need the ..[..scopy thing ..].. ! !

I'm thinking of doing this test. How can I found out which anti deps effect the result?

Halinka,

I don't know much about anti-depressants.

I use Genova testing. You can get discounts if you are a member of Thyroid UK

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

You will get a kit with all the details about what to do. Basically you have to provide 3 mltrs of spit, four times a day, into individual containers, which you freeze immediately. You can then return them to Genova, based in London, either through Royal Mail special delivery or courier. You get a detailed report, with graphs, on your results.

My daughter has struggled with severe heartburn but has found this combo very effective:

Before meals: Apple cider vinegar in water

With meals: bodykind.com/product/4496-V...

Thanks I will look into that but want to do the test I think... As it could be useful I think... I can then try this to stop it... I don't really want to take tablets so the vinegar would be good 😊

These capsules are very good as they don't have any fillers.

Please can you tell me how long it usually takes to get report. I have consultant appointment on 12th July. I wondered if I had time to get result. Thanks

I've done the Genova saliva adrenal test a couple of times and three weeks seems to be about the usual time to receive results, last one was 23 days.

Hi, thanks for that. I thought I was being optimistic. I think I'll print off some literature on testing and take it with me when I see the consultant. Fingers crossed, he'll at least listen to my concerns.

Regards
