Nikki2975,

Vit D is deficient. When my vitD was <10 I was prescribed 40,000iu D3 x 14 days, followed by 2,000iu daily x 8 weeks and when retested vitD was 107.

My doctor has put me on 20,000IU for 7/8 weeks and then to lower it but can't remember what too.

Whatever did your GP say about your D3 result ? As Clutter suggests you need loading doses. When taking large doses of D3 it is advisable to take VitK2 - as VitD increases levels of calcium absorption from foods. This calcium will remain circulating in the bloodstream if K2 is low. K2 directs the calcium to the bones and teeth. Magnesium too - should be taken.

If you type VitD into the Search Thyroid UK Box at the top of this page - previous posts will appear which should be helpful ....

Thank you for your advice.

My doctor didn't say anything about it just to take 20,000IU twice a week for 7/8 weeks and then lower the dose but can't remember what too.

I am really craving diary things at the moment especially Cheese and i'm having problems with my joints and muscles when i'm working or moving around a lot so i think both of them are low but they haven't been tested.

Nikki2975,

Joint and muscle pain will be due to vitamin D deficiency. I doubt you will need to reduce dose in 8 weeks. You haven't been prescribed a very high dose.

Someone else said it was low magnesium.

what happens is...when i've been doing a lot or working and sit down, if i try to get up after a few minutes i'm in a lot of pain and it seems to becoming from (i'm trying to think of a nice way to put it but i can't) halfway down my bottom and when i try to get up it's like my muscles are pulling in different directions. i have to try to roll over on to my stomach and push myself up which seems to ease it a bit but then i can't walk properly till it wears off. I end up walking like a Duck. sometimes when i stretch i get cramp in my lower back on my right side and also in both my calfs. when i feel it starting i stop stretching and it goes but when i do it during my sleep, the pain wakes me up and i'm crying it hurts that much. when it stops i go back to sleep but when i get up i can't walk properly for hours after with it being sore where most of the pain was.

I've tried looking for the 2000mcg of methylcobalamin but can't find any anywhere.

Jarrow Methylcobalamin B12 comes in 1000 and 5000 from amazon and other places. You will also need to take a GOOD B complex to keep all the B's in balance.

Are you on sufficient thyroid hormone ?

Thank you i found the B12 on Amazon. is there any B complex that you use that you can recommend? they sell them in Boots and thought i would try there own one as it has good reviews but thought i'd ask first.

I don't have to take any medication at the moment. my TSH is surpressed but my FT3 &FT4 are within range. i have my results on here somewhere but i was diagnosed as subclinically hyperthyroid last month by my endo.

I take Thorne Research B complex at the moment. It contains folate rather than folic Acid. For some people Folic Acid is not a problem - for others it can be. Check out fbirder on the PAS forum here on HU. He has good knowledge on B12 - as do others there - like Gambit62 - sleepybunny and many more :-)
