Hi everyone😊

For a month now, my right eyelid has been spasming. It's driving me crazy. Is this a thyroid issue?????

Thanks from 🇨🇦

Ps... I'm on 150 mg Erfa for hypo thyroid

I used to get eyelid twitching. I haven't had it since I started improving my nutrient levels. The difficulty is determining which thing(s) you might be short of. In my case I think the culprits were iron and magnesium deficiency.

Have you ever had blood tests for vitamin and mineral levels? If you have you need to get hold of the results from your doctor. If you haven't, start with getting ferritin (iron stores), vitamin B12, vitamin D and folate tested because these are all very important for thyroid health and are often low in people with thyroid problems.

As far as magnesium is concerned, I take 300mg of magnesium citrate every evening. (It makes some people a little bit sleepy.) There are other ways of supplementing magnesium. You can spray magnesium oil on to the skin and rub it in. (You can even spray it into your mouth if you are desperate, but it tastes absolutely vile.) Or you can put handfuls of epsom salts in the bath and soak in it. Personally I find the magnesium citrate tablets the easiest.

It isn't a good idea to supplement iron without being tested first - too much iron is poisonous.

My next comment is going to be a very, very long shot indeed and is probably absolute nonsense...

Some people twitch in other ways - restless legs for example. I have no idea whether restless legs share any causes in common with twitching eyelids but let us imagine that it might. One treatment for restless legs is quinine. Tonic water contains quinine. Buy a bottle of tonic water (check it contains quinine) and drink some. See if it helps your eyelid spasm. At least it won't do any harm. :)

Thankyou humanbean!!!!

I'm going to try quinine in tonic water and then magnesium if that doesn't work👍🏻

Have a great day🌻

Awesome... Thanks... It's on my list.... I drink too much coffee as well... I bet that is depleting magnesium🌸🌺🌹

Yup - I get that as well - seems to be triggered by stress & especially bad when I'm in a cycle of not sleeping properly :(

Hi budd,

Ya my sleeping is always bad...  My dr says I may be getting too much thyroid hormone  (155 mg Erfa) so down to 125 mg

Take care 👍🏻

I've heard that a twitch in the eye is a lack of magnesium. Maybe try taking an epsom salt bath w/lots of epsom salt, don't skimp.

I used to get this. It reminded me of Inspector Closeau's boss in the Pink Panther films...

This was the one and only thing that stopped once I started levo

Once my B12 levels were increased my eye twitching stopped.

Hi Mariliz,

Ya there are so many factors to consider .  It may be b12, magnesium, low iron or too much thyroid hormone... 5 weeks of this is making me crazy😳

Take care🌹
