Could it be Lympthoedema?

You could request a referal to Lympthoedema Clinic / Service?

What has GP said it is so far?

ALSO

Have you ever had blood tests to check levels of Vitamin D, B12, Ferritin and Folate? If not you could ask GP for these on Friday?

Have you been to the GP before about your swollen foot? I don't know if people who have had thyroid removed have more swelling than other people. I get some swelling in upper body sometimes but GP does not think it's anything significant so hopefully you will get reasurance and advice but always good to check it out. It's hard to know what is normal and what to expect when living without a thyroid. There doesn't seem to be any good literature on it or any research to gather up the data. All the stuff on thyroid cancer seems to be about surgery and immediate post surgery, not about long term recovery and life afterwards. Don't feel that you should just put up with things but check them out. The GP's also need to learn how thyroidectomy affects patients. You are probs the only patient who has had thyroid cancer they will ever see in the course of their professional work. Getting tired more easily I think is normal. Lots of rest is one solution. Keep a check on vitamin levels. I'm not sure how it affects us but those with Hashimotos thyroid condition often find they are deficient. Glad you're feeling well.

thank you, you are right it all seems to be about the surgery. long term effects are not really thought of. i have been to drs about foot before and they said no its not related. i feel they are so scared to say it may be related like im going to be pissed off. its very frustrating. im so happy they found the cancer and i was lucky.

Did you ask them what they think it is? Did they give a diagnosis for the swelling in your foot? I find a tendency to think everything is related to living with reduced thyroid volume but I think you have to be open to consider other possibilities initially. Just rule everything else out first. I think the doctors just simply don't know. The knowledge simply isn't there in the medical community, or if it is then it's not getting through to our GP's. It would be interesting to find out how many other people treated for thyroid cancer have unexplained swelling.

i think, if one lymph nod was removed, you will have a problem. inquire about lymph massage, it will draw out the water, if it is a lot, it will be painfull and you piddle quite a bit after the massage. x

Have you any recent Thyroid bloods. If you post them with the ranges then at least we can comment as to whether it's Thyroid or not. Are you drinking enough? There is a tendency in your situation to cut down on fluids so as not to encourage swelling. It doesn't work like that so make sure you are well hydrated.

i see my consultant in August last lot where done in March. i am seeing GP tomorrow i will ask. i drink alot of water throughout the day i try and drink 2 litres x

Not sure if this has any relevance but my shoe size used to be 11, but is now 13, and they feel a bit cramped, after losing my thyroid gland. Also have occasional bouts of gout, not so often after I switched from levo to NDT.
