Am I right ?

Anyone know ? am I right in thinking the GP practice should be able to print off my thyroid blood results from a few years up to date ?

It would be really useful to have that information to argue my case that I have always needed to be below lowest level of tsh.

Thanks in advance for any info.

yes

You may need to do a formal request

Have you got access to blood tests on line?

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality some GP surgeries still do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results.

for test results going back several years you may need to wait 30 days before they are ready for collection

”UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results…”

Not in Wales, they don’t… We get online access for nothing anymore - not even myhealthonline to order repeat prescriptions! They’ve just upgraded their computer systems and we now have access to zilch!

Progress eh?

My surgery switched off myhealthonline and we use the Ap GIG Cymru/NHS Wales App. No results available. Only appointments and prescriptions. But if I go to the surgery and ask, they will print off recent results without any issue at all. They seem to expect patients to do this.

I haven’t signed up for their app… have too many of those already and they wanted way too much information about me just to sign up. I just get my repeat prescriptions via a dedicated email direct to the dispensary and do the old-fashioned phone call to arrange appointments (thankfully extremely rarely).

I tried to sign up, even reluctantly sent a pic of my driving licence. They then wanted access to my computer to take a picture of me. My elderly laptop, running on Windows 95 does not have a camera and even if it did, I know not to let anyone have access to my computer. What were they thinking?

There is no mobile signal here, so I dont have "apps". My nearest bank is now 30 miles away and they gaily tell me to use the app. I have to get in the car and drive 3 miles to get a signal. This is why it is called a mobile...

So much for progress....

It is strictly phone/tablet approach to things.

Get in touch with "them" and complain?

For anything further back than your most recent test results, you may need to make a formal written request if you actually want the surgery to make print outs.

I know this doesn't help but my husband used to be able to access detailed results online via his GP. Now his latest results just say - No Action Needed , and there is no way to request full results online so we are supposed to assume all is in order. However, as we all know we need to make our own decisions when it comes to thyroid results. I do hope you are able to get what you need easily.

I asked nurse for mine on the phone and she said due to gdpr I’d need to go in and ask receptionist at the surgery. She’s been there for years so when I went in she was busy but she offered to post out and I got mine yesterday .

If you have online access you can print this stuff off yourself.

I had asked to go back a few years on my thyroid blood test results once and I asked first at my GP reception , I was told to send an email requesting the dates I required, which I did immediately! I got an email 48 hours later saying they were ready, it was all printed out for me !

No problem it was all very easy and quite quick

A good source of information on how to get copies of your information is the "Information Commissioner's Office" (ICO) website.

ico.org.uk/for-the-public/

ico.org.uk/for-the-public/g...

ico.org.uk/for-the-public/m...

There are probably other pages on the ICO website that are worth reading and could be useful to you, my list of links is not exhaustive.

To avoid being fobbed off you could make a Subject Access Request (SAR) which, legally, your doctor's surgery can't ignore. It sounds more complicated than it is and these days you can use the ICO website to actually send an SAR to your surgery online.
