sorry I havent wrtten in a while but I have been suffering with osteoarthritis in both hips and trying to keep my job. Currently awaiting first of two hip opperations in nov,,im only 53,, feel 103!!

Any way recently again due to stress I find my thyroid dying again , and I was put on 75 ml levothyroxine, but I still feel rubbish , I am hungry all the time , but I dont want to put on any more weight as this will have a n adverse effect on my poor hips. I also have a continuing eye infection that wont go away and it tears all day long, even with antibiotic drops.

My skin is eve worse, as i have constant rashes all over my arm , and I still fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

I have been on 75 ml for about one month now, and so the extra medication should have kicked in.

I also find that my hair is falling out!! I have read that 1 in 6 cant convert t4 to t3 and have to use armour thyroid if this is what its called, i couldhave the name wrong. I also have palpitations in my legs still which is really annoying when Im trying to sleep.

I feel rubbish and tired and ache and find it much harder to recover from mere colds and suchlike.

I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like this , and would really appreciate any advice from this wonderfull commuity.

Nice to hear from you again, Astro but I'm sorry you're still unwell and need surgery. Ask your GP to test vitamin D as soon as possible. Many hypo patients are vitD deficient and surgical outcomes will be better if deficiency is corrected before surgery.

If you post your last thyroid results and ranges I can tell you if 75mcg is likely to be optimal. I need to see TSH, FT4 and FT3 to see how well you are converting. If you aren't converting well the addition of T3 can be as good as NDT such as Armour, and is more affordable.

i am still trying t get an appointment with gp clutter, when i do i will get my last blood test results,,but im so fed up of feeling tired, and having this stupid eye infection after ten days that hasnt gone,, and all iwant to do is sleep.. i fall asleep still at the drop of a hat,, no good at work,, have to keep waking myself up,, also not good as im slooing my job as i cant walk,,

i hobble , and i do take vit d suppliment as the gp did say that my vit d was low , last time but that was before the summer,, (lol what summer.. three or 4 days hot sun),,i havent been outside in my garden a great deal as i have to sit onme bottom to garden,, thats a pig too,,

im just so fed up that my body is not holding me up well, and i just want to feel better ,,,,, hope youre well now .

I finally got an appointment with my gp and she has just ordered me more blood tests , she said that she would have prefered that i wait and have all my blood tests together, but i said i wanted to know if it was anythng else before i have surgery, i didnt want to wait till then.

I have rashes and eye problembs and swell up and all sorts, really fed up.. and with the osteoarthritis , i am getting to the stage i dont care if i lose my job,, i have little or no life and spend most of my days off in bed , and when i finish work im in so much pain i just sometime scook and leave something for my son when he gets in , sometimes if thats a good day , but usually i just go straight to bed.

My gp siad my t4 was a bit high and she would have hoped it was down a bit, its 16.4 dont know what it should be?

Astro, FT4 16.4 is only high if it is over range. Ask your GP what the range is. FT4 is good in the upper quadrant to top of range.

Hi, Astro - I also had both hips replaced, when I was 49, and 50. It helped my back problem a lot - before that I could not get rid of back/hip pains.

For rashes I've found that alkalanising my body helps. It might be worth a try for you at this juncture. A quick fix could be to stop coffee/alcohol/sugars for a few days (or as close to that goal as you can muster up) and drink lemon juice in water - fresh - as much as you like. Lemon juice becomes alkaline when you swallow it. And rest if you can! Painful hips are not easy street, , even without thyroid trouble! You are likely to be MUCH better after your two surgeries.

You're coping with a lot, so reduce stress any way that's healthy. Give some thought to something you really love and do it - avoid what you know stresses you, including people who influence you that way. We are wonderfully made, with the constant response of life to death at every level, and anything we do that's good for us at any level immediately contributes to the overall balance, whether it's diet or something else.

I do hope this helps. Do NOT get discouraged!

I am terrified,,honestly,, it took me two hrs to get myself to have breast surgery,, heaven knows how im going to get myself to go through with these two surgeries,, know that sounds mad,, i am in heaps of pain,, i m so frightened of opperations ,, i know i t will probably help, but i suppose underneath its the anger that my own body didnt stand up to life,,and its crumbling ,,my thyroids making me feel crap as it attacks me daily,,ive had an eye infection for ten days now, even with antibiotic drops,,!!

how long did it take you before you could move like you used to when you had your hips replaced,, and does it feel normal inside you or do yu feel like it may snap or come lose?

sorry but these are the questions the docs wont answer?

Your Osteoarthritis, unless you have had major injuries to your hips, is autoimmune.and so is Hashimotos. When your immune system goes bad, you need to look at your diet. Please look up Dr. Mark Hymans website and Dr. Isabella Wentz. You cannot expect that thyroid meds are enough to make you well, at least many of us. Do you know that if you have food sensitivities, it can give you these diseases? As i have said before, if you don't change what you are doing, you will continue to get worse. Dr's don't know how to treat autoimmune disease, naturally. Many have put their arthritis and hashi's into remission with diet., thus avoiding complications.

I am vegetarian, and i do not have a bad diet, I eat lots of fish ,tuna, oily fish with omega three.

Lots of salads,and some turmeric curries for the anti inflamitory repect,

I eat a very simple diet , i have meusli and cocnut yoghurts for breakfast, with brazil nuts for the selenium. I reall dont have a bad diet, Im just fed up of my body attacking me the whole time.

I am going to mention this to the gp when I see him or her, but I dont thin the gps know what they are doing with the thyroid.

Your diet sounds great. The issue is that you may be eating something that you have a sensitivity too..like nuts or coconut, maybe dairy? You may need to do testing. If you can't, check out the autoimmune paleo 30 day reset. No legumes, no nightshades, no seeds, no grains, no sugar, no gluten.. some people are ill from this. Just meat and some veg. I tested sensitive to some nuts, coconut and some dairy..my son tested positive for gluten and dairy, many seeds and nuts, my daughter is now allergic to carrots! The point is, that you just don't know. I just hate to see you have this surgery, when it could clear up with the diet..reset diet. It is very possible. I see a doctor on Wednesday, for my stool, saliva and urine testing, then on to the diet.

I am so tired of being, swollen and woozy dizzy, headaches..i too have to try something different.

i have a friend who eats brazil nuts for snacks ,,the selenium helps the thyroid,,and i hear less pasta is good,,but i do eat lots of oily fish and salads,, i have an awful feeling that diet onlyhelps a little when youre thyroid is playing up asit just about attacks anything good inside.

and forget any wheat grass,,were not cows,,, thats a total myth,thats its good for us,, we have one stomach not three..

my silly regime has to start two hrs before i have to go anywhere, as i have to bath and take my pills and wait for them to kick in and then think about what the hell i can eat that isnt going to bloat, or react with me in the day,, i have to out my feel up too as fed up with swelling ,,, its a night mare,,but i find ginger tea works well for the swelling,, and i have tried turmeric in foods as its also anti inflamitory ,,how much one needs i am not sure,,but you dont want all your food bright orange ..lol

the focus with functional medicine, is not on the amount or type of thyroid replacement, because it doesn't work well, until you uncover the reasons behind your immune system going bad. I have just found out that i lack sufficient digestive enzymes and bacteria in my gut, it is laeky and effecting my immune susytem..this alone causes swelling, weight gain, fatigue..thyroid symptoms..my cortisol is low, all day and my nueotransmitters have now suffered. I have gotten supplements for that and pray it helps.

I would highly suggest signing on to Isabella Wentz email subscription, about the root cause of hashimotos and see how she put hers into remission. This is what i am working on, since apparently, thyroid meds are just part of the picture.

i wish it was just my diet i had to worry about, but i do eat a very healthy diet , i just think im really unlucky,, i saw the x ray and i wasnt convinced , but i must admit my right hip clicks and whirrs more times than a clockwork toy and the pain is unreal, and i cant bend ,,,,,so i presume i must need these two opps , but the thought of having titanium hips doesnt thrill me, but its just in life,, no pain no gain,,,so i suppose would have to go through a degree of pain to be able to walk again for another 2o yrs,,that will get me to 73 at least,, if eveything else is ok , No im not allergic to nuts, i dont eat a great deal of gluten as it bloats me ,, so i stay away from all that , i eat alot of sea food being pescatarian, so i wish it was the food,

I thinkthe nhs is having a hard time where i am as my new gps seem to be suffering lately as geting an appoinmtment is hard.

anyway thanks for the concern,, I do cook all my own food and dont buy or eat ready made,, not a fan ,,got to say,!!
