Haven't slept for ages...any help would be gratefully received.

Hi all

I take 150mcg Levothyroxine and 20 mcg Liothyronine.

I also take 20 mcg of Paroxetine antidepressant?

I was taking all the meds together in the morning, and then realised I should not be taking anything within 4 hrs of my thyroid meds.

I take my two thyroid meds in a morning and my Paroxetine and Vit D tab at lunch.

I have been unable to sleep since I swapped the times. I have had trouble sleeping since starting the Paroxetine, but had managed some sleep until I changed the time of day.

I have done all the usual things to help relaxation, sleep hygiene, no telly etc.

Any ideas or any over the counter meds people have tried would be gratefully received as I am going stir crazy.

I have tried rescue remedy, kalms, Nytol but they don't work. I have taken sleeping pills when I have to but I don't want to and they make me sick the next day.

I am desperate for sleep, I am like a zombie.

Big hugs

Sophie ☺ xx

Hi Sophie,

My understanding is that it is only iron and calcium supplements that need to be taken 4hours away from thyroid meds.

In your shoes I would go back to the morning doses. Have your thyroid meds by your bed & take your thyroid meds as you wake up, and once you are up washed and dressed then take your other meds: paroxine and vit D. This probably will give you a 30-60 min gap.

Hopefully sleep will be restored without a need for further interventions.

Woke up feeling exactly the same, a zombie... my endo has reduced my medication and I'm straight back to insomnia...all they care about is the numbers and not the symptoms...thought I'd try his suggestions and have stuck it for over a week, now impossible to sleep without sleeping pills and now they don't want to give me those. I'm going to up my T3. I wish you luck. There is nothing worse than being awake all night, I'm just thankful I don't need to go out to work, I simply couldn't do it. Hope you get sorted soon and yes as for all those so called other remedies they simply DONT work.

Sophie, Try the Paroxetine 2 hours after thyroid meds but if it doesn't work, go back to taking them together if that's the only way you can sleep.

Have you tried any of the "drowsy" type anti- histamines? I find that phenergan and sleep aid ( 25 mg strength) both work reasonably well Take about 20 mins. before sleep time...Hope this helps - not sleeping is the pits!!!!

Hi foxglove

I have tried nytol. Works sometimes, but leaves me feeling as if I have a hangover the next day.

Do the ones you use do that?

Big hugs

Sophie ☺ x

Hi Sophie, nytol didn't work for me, and I must admit that sleep aid does sometimes have an after effect (still sleepy at getting up time)next morning if I don't take it early enough night before. Tablet is scored and easily split so if you decide to try maybe Half dose at first? Phenergan has no drowsy effect next morning for me but it can also be got in 10 mg size which might be enough to start with

Good luck - hope you find something to help!!

Another thing I find is I've sometimes got to change the tablet as think body can get used to the same one

Big hugs to you too x
