Can anyone suggest anything to do or take for my hair, its in terrible condition. I've tried stuff like argan oil etc and obviously can't take anything with kelp in it.
I have had an underactive thyroid and take 200mg Thyroxine per day.

I have found that mixing 3 tablespoons of castor oil and 2 tablespoons of coconut oil then drizzling it over the scalp and massaging in works well for me. You don't need to soak the hair in it just make partings every inch or so and put a few drops along each one. Give it a good massage and leave in for a few hours before washing out. It also helps if your hair is getting a bit thin too and can be put on your eyebrows and lashes too. Clemmie
I've run out of my hair loss conditioner so am now using Organix conditioner. Hair is in not bad condition now although Summer takes its toll. There are some good deals on Organix products at Amazon, it's not cheap although very concentrated.
Thanks will go have a look. I'm not thinning, though think that's just cause I had so much hair to start with.
I find that Biolage Conditioning Balm by Matrix helps my hair. It brought my hair back from the dried frazzled brink and continues to keep it in nice condition even though I have highlights and use hair straighteners. You can buy it via Amazon.
Are you taking omega supplements? That will help too.
Good luck! xx
Cheers for reply. I'm not taking any supplements as my diet is good. Also money tight at mo as not working so not got the pennies for much else but keeping the house ticking over. But would happily change to a different shampoo.
My hair is just in such bad condition, frazzled is the exact word for it. Its not thinning. Or anything just lots of hair loss and dry, yet greasy, and brittle.
I found Kerastase shampoo really improved my hair. I see the one that sorts out your scalp - comes in a blue bottle, anyone who sells it will know which one it is or they might look at your hair and suggest a better one. It isn't cheap but a bottle lady's a long time if you don't use too much.
And the other thing you might look at is, do you live in an area with very hard water? In London the scale is awful, and I found putting a water softener in the water tank helped my hair a lot. It seems to do worse things for my hair than anyone else's, presumably due to the hypo.
I live in Scotland, we have lovely soft water. Though I understand what you mean as she I visit my sister Dow near London my hair gets so so bad when I wash it.
You are v lucky. The other thing that might help (before you find the right dose as Really fed up suggests) is forgetting the shampoo. I wash my hair with conditioner - just as clean, but it doesn't strip it so much. Got that tip from a book on how to treat curly hair. But most days my hair is not so much curly as clown wig.
Ha, were the opposite I used to go up to visit my mother put the same amount of shampoo in my hand and spend forever trying to get rid of the foam.
I just use a small amount of the Kerastase for each of two washes and it works out quite economical.
Its doubtful my doctor would prescribe me ndt.
Also my thyroxine has just been adjusted so will give it a couple of months and see how I go.
I have been looking into ndt the past year as I do think thyroxine causes nearly just as many issues as it helps. But as mentioned doubtful I could get it. Will revisit situation after next blood test in couple of months though. Thanks for replying as it is a valid point.
I asked my endo about NDT and he said as it was unregulated they would prescribe it (I'm in Scotland) so wondered how you go about getting a prescription? Thanks
Try Aussie 3 minute miracle x
v useful to know, reallyfedup. I had assumed I would be stuck with vertical hair for life.
Optimal Thyroid medication is needed for hair to be good. Some people don't do well on levo alone.
I agree about the Aussie range. What has saved my hair is investing in a Keratin Blow Dry. It is expensive (over £100) but it lasts for 4 months and my hair is in great condition now and I don't have to straighten it - it is smooth.
I use Neem Soap (its for use on body and hair) by One Village, leaving it on for a short while before then washing out with a fortifying shampoo and then any moisturising conditioner - I had a lot of soreness and irritation on my scalp at one stage and this soap has been wonderful. Also to put minerals back into your hair, use a tablespoon or so of Epsom salts in a jug of water for last rinse and leave in hair. The soap is £2.50 a bar from One Village online, if you haven't got a local shop selling it.
