Going Abroad to buy T3

Has anyone done the above? Is it true that you can buy and bring in to the UK T3 for your own personal consumption?

I buy mine from abroad but take very high doses so am thinking it will be cheaper to go abroad and bring back for myself.

Does anyone know where to buy T3 from now? This is extremely important to some people, I am one of those and T3 saved my life. Now NHS England do not think it matters that they should care. Individual CCGs should also care, but are too busy looking after their own jobs and 'their' suppliers - of all things, not just drugs!

Karispitit, We're allowed to import up to 3 months prescription medicine for our personal use.

My sister picks me up a packet of Tiromel as 'back up' when she is in Turkey. If you are planning on buying a lot make sure you pre-order it a few days in advance in case the pharmacy has to order some in.

Brewstersmyth, Tiromel is a Turkish brand T3 and is available over the counter in Turkey. NDT is derived from pig so probably not available in Turkey. Most NDT is either American, Canadian or Thai.

Brewstersmyth, adding T3 to Levothyroxine will give the same benefit as NDT for a lot of people but some don't tolerate synthetic thyroxine and T3 and do better on NDT.

If you want guidance on how to dose T4+T3 post your recent thyroid results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after results) in a new question.

100 x 25mcg Tiromel was the equivalent of £2 or £3 last summer. If your friend is getting more than a couple of packs s/he should order 48 hours in advance in case they have to be ordered in.

Bargain worth a try anyway at that price . I don't have the exact results I was just told they were normal ...They appear to have lost my T3 but will chase both

Currently on 200mg levothyroxine . Can't lose weight even on strict diets and detoxes .

The tiredness and joint pains worsened recently as did the brain fog ...Following a full vegan no dairy gluten wheat caffeine detox joint pain has lessened .

Also introduced vit d3 ,microbiotics, zinc omega 3 , which have helped I think .

Apparently my B12 is ok (we have a family history of pernicious anaemia so check this annually with thyroid )

Is it important to have the exact levels to introduce the T3 ?

Brewstersmyth, it is important to have levels if you want guidance on how much to T3 to take and whether or not to reduce Levothyroxine when you add T3. If you're following a vegetarian or vegan diet you must supplement B12. It's not available from plant foods.

I don't know Bodrum personally. Your friends should be able to get 1 or 2 packets without pre-ordering. If you need more than that ask them to order 48-72 hours in advance so it can be ordered in.

Go to Google images, do a search for pictures of Tiromel T3, print one out, and get your friends to show the picture to pharmacists. The packet design has changed in recent years. I'm not sure what the most recent design looks like, so perhaps other can help. Or perhaps print out all the designs you can find for your friends. One of them is bound to do the trick.

There is no hard and fast limit for the UK.

You need to be able to persuade anyone who asks (e.g. customs officer) that the amount is reasonable and is genuinely for members of your household. For many people, three months supply would be no issue but if getting more, be prepared to argue your case - backed up with whatever you have available such as old prescriptions. Mind, how does anyone know what three months supply actually is... ?

Remember that each country has its own laws. If you don't travel directly between the UK and whichever other country, you need to understand if there are any issues.
