my vitamin d levels were 63.5 nmol/l (25.4 ng/ml) so i decided to try and raise it. since self supplementing 4,400 iu vitamin d daily i have started to experience pain in my right side only when breathing in. it's like a burning/severe ache like it's very bruised. it's not my lower back though it's about breast level i'd say - just on the right side of my body. it's tender to touch and is very painful when sitting down or bending over yet when i stand up it disappears completely.
i'm a bit confused because i've read it could be due to several reasons. could it be a case of getting worse before getting better? could it be that i've not been taking any magnesium with it? or is it possibly damaging my kidneys?
i've been taking it for 7 days now and it only started 2 days ago. should i just try and ride it out?
my calcium levels were within range.

actually just found this piece of information which kinda puts my mind at ease a bit. basically says how it's very hard to overdose on vitamin d and i'm most likely just experiencing muscle pain especially after only taking it for 7 days.
You've done the research, well done! but Just in case my experience helps...
63 isn't that bad - but grassroots recommends at least 125 nmol/l before you can start to store it (for winter)
Breathing in- well it had got to the stage, for me, of severe ribcage pain - x-ray but that's when it just got so much I had to do something... GP said CFS - zero treatment!
Shins - I had horrid shin pain before and more when starting supplements (4000iu daily) - I have this now - I am trying the spray version this time (peppermint!)
(meanwhile bilateral carpal & cubital tunnel surgery avoided - and crickky neck)
VitD was my first vital mineral - now I look at the related rest, esp magnesium & K2 (Oh and essential fatty acids - Omega 3 (&6) aka vitamin F!) - please don't underestimate what vital minerals contribute! J
Hi Vital to always check your calcium first. D usually makes calcium rise and it must never go over range. This could well be the calcium which can be serious.
