Daily Telegraph Q & A - what do we think??

Loobs, the patient should obviously resume Levothyroxine although I'm surprised her GP wants to titrate 50mcg to 100mcg at once. Fair point about hypothyroidism causing hair loss although Levothyroxine can also cause hair loss. I think some fat is required in our diets and don't agree with the low fat recommendation.
Low fat is now 'not fashionable'. It's good that's the second thyroid article in a few weeks. I do not like these two sentences - quote:-
"Although she was told she’d probably put on more weight and not be able to lose it, she has maintained her weight for the past three years after her initial five-stone loss."
" She states, poignantly, that you have got to want to lose weight because you want to, not because society dictates you should be a particular size."
Unless your are optimumally medicated there's very little you can do to lose weight, i.e. WW etc. I lost with weightwatcher's but that's before I was hypo and I haven't gained weight but for people like the person mentioned in the article who lost 5stone, I doubt she could have done that if she was undertreated as her metabolism would have been far too low.
It's a sort of psychological phrase ' if you really want it - you can have it'.
I have always read that over 80% of cholesterol is produced in the body - because the body needs it. Diet is just a small part of the jigsaw....
Am glad it was mentioned that there is a link to cholesterol and low thyroid. Let's hope a few million of the 5 or is it 7 million people on statins in the UK read this article !!
Useful article and also that it highlights that high cholesterol could be due to hypothyroidism. A shame the nutritionist talks of low fat and also using soya products - not particularly helpful, also no mention of possibility of Hashimotos and gluten free.
I had no hair loss until starting Levo and was thin. The hair loss is absolutely due to the tablets in my case and I get very tired of being told-as in this article- that it was happening due to the underactive thyroid before the meds were taken. I had thick hair and a thin body, 8months after starting Levo, I am the other way around. I found the article patronising but maybe I'm just in a bad mood!
