Good that they have increased dose ....
TSH 4.95 [0.24 -4.2]
'normal ' ??
does this GP have poor eyesight .. or are they just crap at maths ?
I have been telling them for years that - it’s a head banging business 😭
Definately under medicated!! I was diagnosed with some evidence of fatty liver 15yrs plus ago. But since meds optimised, vitamins bs sorted and gluten free my liver is fine once more. I can only assume it was linked to my hypothyroidism that took an age to get diagnosed, never mind optimally treated. So take heart....
The news is full of the latest weight loss tablets to be available on the NHS..... But can't help thinking that if they optimally diagnosed and treated the nation they probably wouldn't be necessary..
on levothyroxine TSH should always be below 2
So yes you are under medicated
Most people when adequately treated will have TSH around 1
Most important results are always Ft3 followed by Ft4
Also essential for good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must have good vitamin levels
When were vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels last tested
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
Bloods need retesting 6-8 weeks after dose increase in levothyroxine
Which brand of levothyroxine have you been taking
ALWAYS test thyroid levels early morning, ideally 9am latest and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test. Only drink water between waking and test. Take levothyroxine immediately after test
Thinking about your knee op - have you tried going gluten free or testing for food intolerances?
I say this because some years ago my joints were seizing up. I got myself tested for intolerances. The main problems identified for me were oats and wheat. After 2 or 3 months on my new diet my joints were much improved and this has continued. For me this was much better than being on drugs for the rest of my life.
This is effectively a gluten free diet. The added benefit is that many of us find that a gluten free diet improves their thyroid problems.
Just a thought.
Hi Anthea …they did screen me for gluten intolerance ..but seems ok …but I’m really going to look into this as my digestive system isn’t great either and I really need to lose weight …not sure how doable it is being under medicated …but I’m sure cutting down on white bread / crackers etc will be good for me anyways
Any known cause for your fatty liver? Before my hypo diagnosis, I had fatty liver and gained a lot of weight for unknown reasons. My doctor accused me of being an alcoholic or pill junky. I don't do either one. I was hypo when I was diagnosed with a fatty liver, but my hypo was ignored. I fixed my fatty liver and lost the weight I gained. Don't let your fatty liver get away from you. If you drink, stop. If you take pain pills, stop. If you don't do those, I will tell you what I did to heal mine.
Never drink / never smoked
Had gall bladder removal ……take paracetamol daily cos if aches n pains
How did you fix ur fatty liver ?
S.A. Wilson's organic Gold Roast Coffee enemas. Tudca and Milk Thistle. Kefir. Serrapeptase. The enema will detox the liver, but it also wipes out the good and bad bacteria. This is why drinking Kefir is important. Tudca and Milk Thistle protects and cleans the liver. Serrapeptase eats the fatty tissue on the liver. Search each one and add " Liver" to it for instance " Tudca and Liver" or "Organic coffee enema and Liver". You will find a lot of info on it. It's said to do the enemas for 6 months. I did it daily for 4 years. I had an ultrasound on my liver at 1 year that had shown a lot of progress. At 4 years, I had another scan that shown no fatty Liver. Mine was bad enough that my doctor was wanting to remove half of my Liver.
I agree with Anthea55. I've had knee problems for 20 years. Had an op on one which made no difference to pain. Used acupuncture which worked well for years, but now the arthritis in my knees seems to have taken over. Because of gut issues worsening, even though I tested negative for Coeliacs, I went strictly gluten free (and dairy free). Stomach better but not completely back to 'normal'. The bonus of going gluten free - knee pain considerably better. Had some gluten without realising about a month ago, (still haven't identified what it was, I ate out) and was rough for a few days, but my knees were painful again for two weeks! Other 'bonus' of going gluten free - have lost a stone which can't manage to put back on. Hard to go strictly gluten free (you have to check the ingredients on everything!) but may be worth a 6 month trial.
Your GP should have gone to Specsavers 😱
