serum free T4 level 15.3pmol? (10.0 - 20.0)

thyroid peroxidase antibody level above range >1300iu?ml (<100.0) above high reference range

After the November tests I was sent to see an Endo finally, who tested for all the usual, and changed my levothyroxine dosage from 100mcg to 75 and 100 on alternate days, as she thought i was slightly over medicated, on my return visit she said the tests showed i was negative for Coliec and that my ferritin and folic acid were a bit low so she gave me a months course of both with the instruction to see my gp after for it rechecking to make sure it had gone up to the required level, she said my tsh and ft4 were exactly where she wanted them to be so she discharged me. One of the reasons I had been referred was because my gp was concerned that he could not get my levels stabalised, he didn't understand why they kept fluctuating. The endo confirmed that I had Hashimotos Hypothyrodism as shown by the TPA result.My next results were as follows, and it is these I would like your opinion on please too. Thank you

Oh dear - the B12 is dismal ! In Japan the range is 500-1300 and anything under 500 can cause neurological symptoms - not always detectable. Only 20% of your result is available at a cellular level where it is needed....hence the result needs to be near the TOP of the range.

Your stored Iron is also very LOW - and needs to be at least mid-range. These things will affect how you feel and how your thyroid hormones work. Do you have gut issues - as is often the case with hashi's.... ?

It would be good to know what your FT3 is up to as I suspect you may well have a conversion problem too. It may be time to further investigate why your B12 is so low and additional testing may be required. The website I have indicated should be helpful in that respect. Don't forget VitD....

Thank you for confirming what I thought, I have been to the doctors today again over another matter and asked him again about the ferritin and B12, he said they are both alright so I know he will not prescribe anything or order more tests for those, he doesn't think Vit D is important either and that I should just eat more greens (like salads) and red meat. I have salad every day lol. The lab doesn't often test my ft3 even when requested. I suspect that my B12 is so low because I had a duodenal ulcer a few years ago and have been on omeprazole every since, and, as you probably know, Hashis also lowers stomach acid, so i think, that even getting a private blood test done is going to be pointless with this doctor you are right about the state of my health, I have constant ringing in my ears, headache to one side continually feel out of it etc etc, and on top of that i am menopausal lol . thank you for taking the time to confirm what I thought.

Sorry to hear about your Docs attitude to such important matters. When you have managed to read the B12 website and maybe do the quiz - below - you may feel more confident about approaching your Doc for more in depth testing. It could be PA - Pernicious Anaemia - which is autoimmune...and there are tests that are suggested on the website.....You really do need to ask the surgery for the results of your tests with ranges. It is your right to have these results - as detailed on the main Thyroid UK website. Am afraid we have to take care of ourselves these days. Vitamin D is VITALLY important - click onto conditions on vitamindcouncil.org and take a peep. All those trillions of cells making up our bodies each have a Vitamin D receptor which engages with the nucleus and the DNA. Not important says your Doc - I hasten to disagree. Maybe he is not up to speed with recent developments. The receptors are there for a reason. Also there is only one other thing that has a receptor on every cell in the body and that is thyroid hormones So that is a lot of T3 and VitD to keep the body working well. VitD is a steroidal pre-hormone.

As you can see from the list of B12 deficiency signs and symptoms your ringing in the ears could be Low B12....

Am afraid its all about reading especially with Hashimotos and Docs have little or no knowledge on the next step.....

hi again I have just realised I didn't say that I do have my results from the surgery, just not the ones from the endo, who discharged me after my second visit because my levels were where she thought they should be, and my general health had improved

Thank you , thats my bedtime reading sorted for tonight haha. I had come down with a sore throat last week and he gave me penicillin, i then developed with spots on my gums, lips roof of my mouth and down the back of my throat and a couple of ulcers on my tongue which are nasty, along the underside of my tongue etc is all swollen and hard, i thought it was possibly oral thrush with the antibiotics but he says I have abscessed ulcers, which I am not doubting for one minute, I have always suffered from ulcers since being small, and my grandaughter who is 6 and lives with me also gets them regularly, i have booked her in to see him on friday as i fear she is deficient too, she isn't a very good eater, but I do give her vitamin tabs, she is complaining of tummy pain too, so we will see what comes of that, i think if I can't get anywhere with him its time to look at another practice. Hi whispers, acid lowering drugs really mess up absorption of essential nutrients. I have to take cimetidine for another health problem, I also have hashi's and you probably won't be absorbing from your food. There is so much medical evidence out there, your doctor should know this. I'm constantly injecting B12, taking folate and iron, and it's a real uphill battle to get my levels up.

Your mouth ulcers could be low b12. I would do the following 5,000mcg sublingual methylcobalamin B12 a day, and also take iron supplements. Idealy you need B12 injections. I'm self injecting, it's not too difficult, lots of videos on YouTube. You can get B12 injectables online too. Always take a good vit b complex too. So your vit D hasn't been tested?

I just don't rely on doctors anymore, the majority couldn't treat a cold.

Hi Helcaster, thank you for your reply, it may have been tested on earlier bloods, I will have to get all paperwork out, I moved house a few months ago and you know how it is, yes I understand about the mouth ulcers too. I will look into your suggestions and can see me going down the route of doing it myself, I am looking into changing practices too now. I knew I was right about the folate and the b12, my sister has b12 injections but she had to fight for them too. I wish there was someway to educate the GP's . Where do you get your B12 from? can you have too much B12 ? I'm sure I read somewhere that it was safe as un needed was disposed of through our body, but that might have been something else, you know how it is when you brain doesn't work properly haha
