I read an article about progesterone deficiency in the years leading up to the menopause, & Iv`e mentioned before that I suspected that too much oestrogen could have caused my thyroid problem. The article said that a lack of progesterone causes oestrogen dominance, & i`m sure that`s what hapened in my case.

Does progesterone deficiency cause thyroid disease?
hi there, just to say I do know from personal experience that oestrogen dominance causes many problems,I had breast cancer of the type caused by it so IMHO in all likelihood it can mess with thyroid as well.I am now hypo but it seems not hashi type.
My problems arose after I started taking the birth pill in 1965 when oestrogen levels in the medication were extremely high, I have always thought it was the pill to blame but my Doctor would not agree. We were more naïve in those days and the thought of a pill for contraception was extremely tempting, little did I realise that after being on it for a few months I had set myself up for a partial thyroidectomy and a lifetime of problems.
I have hashis and am on progesterone because mine is so low. Whether one caused the other I don't know.
Too much oestrogen causes TBG ( thyroid binding globulin ) to rise. Once TBG is increased then you have less free ( unbound) thyroid hormones available ( TBG binds thyroid hormones and once bound, thyroid hormones are not available for your body to use ). This can lead to symptoms of hypothyroidism.
Yep, eostrogen dominance causes problems with thyroid and other glands within the endocrine system. Oestrogen dominance is linked to increased risk in breast cancer and other cancers of the endocrine system.
