Hi all.

Hope someone can shed a light for me. In the sex hormone binding globulin test how does it know which sex hormone is binding for measurements of levels of oestrogen/progesterone/testosterone ratio. Looking for info about cushings disease and why arent we tested or are we??

I can tell you all about Cushing's disease - well as much as I know! I've had it, for me it was caused by a pituitary adenoma it can also be cause by an adrenal adenoma or long term use of steroids. It's said to be a rare condition with just 4 in a million, so drs don't check it very often as they think it's too rare to have! I'm a moderator for a Facebook group called Cushing's UK if you are on FB. We can hopefully answer your questions. We have over 650 members in the UK so it's not as rare as drs think - although some being tested for it end up not having it.

That's the international one, Cushing's UK link: facebook.com/groups/2207009...

I'm not really sure what you mean by artificial hormones. Many of us are on replacement hormones following surgery.

Apologies, i was referring to levothyroxine replacement hormone for thyroid disease and the effects of conversion under stress to rT3 rather than FT3, and wondering if cushing disease body types could be associated with such convertions, eg: as back pain, darkened patches of skin, pendulum breasts and stomach, rounding of face, increase facial hair ect are often also seen with thyroid patients.

There's the Pituitary Foundation has lots of information, they also have an online forum however it's not used very much! The FB group has become very popular with over 650 members.
