I am suffering with this. Have never shown symptoms of oestrogen deficiency before. Had a trouble free menopause as treated with natural progesterone which had also successfully treated my PMS
Can radioiodine treatment cause oestrogen defic... - Thyroid UK
Can radioiodine treatment cause oestrogen deficiency as characterised by an offensive discharge?
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto/hypothyroidism is June last year. I have not had radioiodine treatment but have been suffering from offensive discharge which seems to get worse when I’m stressed. I’m glad you posted this as I was wondering if it was connected to thyroid problems. I’m 67 so long past menopause.
Are you sure it isn't a fungal infection?
As you are past the menopause it could be vaginal atrophy which is very common, easily treated with topical oestrogen.
It is vaginal atrophy but I have never been oestrogen deficient before, have had no symptoms such as hot flushes or vaginal dryness or discomfort during sex ever in my life. Then suddenly shortly after I have become hypo following radioiodine treatment I got this discharge.
I should have said I am now 70 and have never had a problem like that before.
Atrophy is caused by a deficiency in oestrogen which is related to menopause it may only just have reached the level that's giving you symptoms, your GP can prescribe treatment.
I had no odour or discharge with vaginal atrophy - just pain and total lack any moisture
GPS took swabs, prescribed 5 lots of antibiotics. Have had scans and uteroscopy, now on oestrogen predators which aren’t working. This should not have happened because I am still on natural progesterone which converts to oestrogen in my body. (That’s why it prevents osteoporosis)
