Should I go ahead and get the Blue Horizon test for FT3 and thyroid antibodies ? Still feel ill, exhausted and have symptoms of under active thyroid. Thank you.

Your ferritin seems rather low, I am no expert by any means but I think it should be around 80 for your thyroid meds. to work properly. Maybe you need to supplement but by what and how much I do not know, maybe someone more knowledgable will come along and give advice. Also your T4 should be nearer the top end of the range for you to feel well.
I cannot remember if you are on meds or not, makes a different to how the ranges are? I would certainly have the Free T3 done, try and time it with the TSH, and T4 done at GP`s, or have all 3 done by Blue Horizon. These were standard bloods until fairly recently. I would never have had treatment now, as my FT3 was the below range. Also be sure to have the vit D test hormonal and strongly effects the thyroid, GOP should do that OK.
On treatment normally we like the T4 to be in top third of range and FT3 near the top of range, never over.
antibodies usually but does not effect the correct treatment.
Sorry about that, middle of the night! Most of it still applies. However, if not on meds, the results are expected to be slightly lower than if on them. So long as ferritin /iron is like that, should be Ok. However, check B12+ Foliates too, vit \D as I said and Diabetes.
Thanks for your help, Jackie. Have had vitamin D tested and B12, but haven't got results yet. Vitamin D was low in June and then ok in Sep after taking supplements.
Hi If taking vit D, make sure your corrected calcium is in range, essential , effected by D and D is hormonal but calcium is an electrolyte.B12 needs to be high in range, autoimmune and hormonal, as Diabetes is. so strong link with thyroid. Ferritin/riron needs to be clearly in range.
I would go for the thyroid antibodies at least as it will show if you have a thyroid problem. If not that means look elsewhere but if it does show a problem it may be that you need a lower TSH to feel well (I have to be under 0.1) and/or you may not be making T3 properly from the T4. That is where my chemistry is broken and I convert T4 to rT3 which blocks normal T3 entrance to the cells. I took T4 with no improvement, then T3 & T4 with slight improvement and then T3 only and the lights went on! It just depends on what is wrong in your system. So I would start with antibodies to see if there is an underlying thyroid problem. Just my view!
That's a long time! I have been ill for 2 years now. Doc says its chronic fatigue / ME, then doc at chronic fatigue clinic said I didn't fit the criteria for chronic fatigue. I am just desperately searching for an answer.
I really feel for you. I have a few ME friends and one fibromyalgia. Really hope you can get the root of your problem. Needs emotional strategies to cope. I found one positive thing to achieve each day that was within my reach. I then felt better having done something useful. You need good partner/friends/family to keep you going too but managing yourself is most important. Sometimes I had waves of sadness that would come over me and I had to realise it was the illness/chemistry doing it to me. The risk otherwise is that I would cave into it and get too melancholy and down and it's not fair to expect everyone else to pick me up (though they certainly did their best). Good luck with finding some medical answers.
