He possibly wants to reduce your dose. How much are you taking ?

Marz I switched from Levo to naturethroid and currently taking 2 and half grains. I feel great so much better then when I was on levo. I've researched the symtoms of overmedicating and I'm clear. In a few weeks when I can afford it I'll be getting my bloods done private

Your TSH is fine, it's better to be under one when you're on NDT. Your T4 is too low, it needs to be in the top quarter of the range to be optimal.

witchcat43 ok so do you think I should increase my NDT

I think if it was me I would up it by half a grain...when was your last increase?

What you need to do is get your FT3 tested, because TSH and FT4 are irrelevant when you're on NDT.

If you feel good, stay on the same dose, and ignore your doctor when he has a hissy fit about your TSH! :)

T4 is not too low. It's bound to be low when taking any form of T3 - as in NDT. It needs to be in the top quarter when you're on T4 only, not when you're on NDT. :)

Soph43 The advice about FT4 is best in the top third/quarter of it's range applies when on Levo only. When taking any form of T3, be that synthetic T3 or in NDT, then not only can TSH become very low or suppressed, it can also lower FT4. The only result that matters when taking T3 in any form is FT3 and it should be in range.

You may or may not need to increase your NDT but you won't know until you've had a thyroid test that includes FT3.

If you feel good at the moment then I would leave your dose as it is until you have the results of your new test.
