Has anyone used home blood tests uk before? - Thyroid UK
Has anyone used home blood tests uk before?
found vit c powder on holland and barrett thought that might be good
Hi I use Blue Horizon, same Lab as the private hospitals use. all their tests very reliable and suitable to show to a doc. Venous blood or finger prick, see main site, quote TUK 10 for a discount.
the adrenal test will not be there as the best one can only be through a doc because you need a script for the drug involved. it is a 24 hour urine collection, cortisone tablet at midnight and a blood test at 9am exactly. This test is very reliable and the only one my own Endo will use.Menieres is autoimmune , so slight connection with thyroid disease.
I hope that helps. I doubt the ENT will do the test you require, unless very lucky!
Best wishes,
Jackie

Hi Bex, I've used it before and will use them again to see if my levels are better. My doctor wouldn't accept the results though, but then again she didn't think my Vit D level of 19 was a problem so that says it all.
They are easy to do and you get the results back quickly. My ferritin level 20 (ideal 27 for female) was not something I worried about as the other vits were bad, however, since seeing an endo I now know that should be over 70 due to new guidelines, so bear that in mind.

I've used them,, did the thyroid finger prick one,, great service !
I used them for last year. They emailed the results in a PDF document very shortly after I sent the test off (2-3 days max). My numbers appeared 'normal' on their test and the comment they sent along with the result was along those lines too.
I cannot comment on how accurate the results are or if a GP would 'accept' the results or not.
The test I had done was a micro container test - prick your finger and squeeze out enough blood at home. I found it quite tricky but go there in the end.
I used blue horizon home finger prick test for iron panel - showed that I was deficient in 1 measure although the much simpler NHS test was "Normal". Taking my private test result to my GP finally persuaded them to prescribe iron tablets - although you don't need a script - and it's cheaper to but over the counter. For my adrenals I used Genova's saliva test - easy to do at home and they [post back a results summary with recommendations. Although my cortisol levels looked normal this identified that I was deficient in DHEA. Both issues now resolved through taking the relevant supplements.
Hi Xanthe,
I used Genova for adrenal stress profile before do i need that sent to a doc or can i have sent to me?
xx
It should automatically be sent to you as well as to the referring practitioner - whether this be your GP or some other professional (in my case a nutritionist). You can't get tests done by Genova unless it's organised via someone registered with them.
