Hi

I have hasimotos and im on levothyroxine 75. I have had a couple of flare up since diagnosis 2 years ago. Not all bloods taken have been resulted properly. Can anyone tell me what bloods need to be taken when I request my next bloods . I know one is tsh . The blood test will determine whether my dosage needs to change or not

Full testing would be: TSH, free T4, free T3, thyroid antibodies and key nutrients - ferritn, folate, vit D and B12. I have had some success with my GP by saying that these are the tests recommended by Thyroid UK - but not all GPs will authorise all the tests you need, and even if they do, some labs just don't do them [last time, the lab "declined" my endo's request for vit D] - so if your GP won't / can't do the tests you need, you will see LOTS of posts here about private testing.

Just as important: always have an early morning, fasting blood test (when TSH is highest) - just with water beforehand, and leave 24 hours from previous levo and 8 - 12 hours from lio (if you take this) - take the next dose straight after the blood test.

And always get your results in writing afterwards - don't be fobbed off by some receptionist telling you they're "fine" or "normal" or "in range" - you want actual figures. And lab ranges (which vary from lab to lab). Then (a) you can see where exactly you are in range and (b) what has actually been tested. You are legally entitled to your blood results. You don't need to give a reason but it's usually easiest to say "for my records" or register for on-line access.

Then post the results and lab ranges here, and the lovely people will help you to understand them. Good luck :)
