Ibs 40 years wipeout yesterday . I've been taking imodium for nearly 4 years after having Covid 3 times. Tried Buscopan instead of imodium

Hi since trying buscapan for 2 weeks I have in last few days woken up with explosive diarrhoea overflow. I decided last Monday I would not take imodium but yesterday was shocking 11 trips to loo with runs. Drank 2 liters of water to keep hydrated

I'm nearly 76 feel week. Kidney Disease. Rehydration sachets contain salts 🧂 I took one and realised this can hurt my kidneys.

I've woken up this morning and don't know what to do?

Maybe Imodium is my new normal to cope with ibs diarrhoea? Not buscapan?

I need to eat carefully. I am on low hystimine diet. I have potential MCAS due to Covid virus.

Any tips welcome please 💐

Hi I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I have had ibs nearly all my adult life, migraines for 20 years. I am now in late 60s with a neurological problem. There is a link caused by gluten. Just research this, it might be worth you looking at your diet. If a food is causing your symptoms then if it is completely not eaten then it could take several months or years even to get better

This might sound a bit ott but I wish doctors had connected gluten with my health problems instead of just writing prescriptions. Unfortunately doctors cannot do joined up thinking!

Best wishes to you and hope you get some answers soon.

This almost perfectly describes me. Forty years ago it started. Low immunity, getting infections, constant daily diarrhoea and taking codeine and imodium.

At the same time was told I had pernicious anaemia. Standard NHS treatment every three months.

Fast forward to 2022. NHS stopped injections in 2020 and health deteriorated until I started treating myself with twice-weekly injections hydroxocobalamin.

Diarrhoea gone, not quite overnight, but within days. Only recurrence now is when experimenting with diet gets it wrong. I'm still taking enzymes but hoping to reduce the amount very soon.

Even if this is not the cause for you, the good news is that B12 IS TOTALLY HARMLESS. You cannot overdose on it. Certainly well worth looking into.

Sorry to hear about all your complications.

I have some general advice about what to try for IBS in a previous post of mine:

healthunlocked.com/theibsne...

I know COVID-19 can really mess with the gut microbiome, so a good probiotic may help. There is a brand suggestion in my post.
