D DAY IS APPROACHING

Hi everyone,

It has been such a long time since I have posted anything on here but I thought I would check in on you all and also I need my friends with me now too.

As most of you know I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in early February, since then I have had numerous trips to to the hospital with CT scans and a flexible sigmoidoscopy. I am now being admitted on Wednesday morning to have an Operation, a sigmoid Colectomy or a bowel resection. I am not going to lie I am absolutely s**tting myself ( pardon the pun), I know you all probably think I am a scaredy cat and stupid but I am so terrified that I am not going to wake up after the operation am also scared of having a general anaesthetic as haven’t had one since I was six, I am turning 41 on Tuesday. Please help me or give me some words of comfort.

I love you all

Shaun

Hi, don't know what to write so I thought the lyrics of this song would give you some comfort and of course the song itself youtu.be/LanCLS_hIo4

Three little birds, Bob Marley, lyrics

"Don't worry about a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right.

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right! "

Rise up this mornin',

Smile with the risin' sun,

Three little birds

Pitch by my doorstep

Singin' sweet songs

Of melodies pure and true,

Sayin', ("This is my message to you-ou-ou: ")

Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

Singin': "Don't worry (don't worry) 'bout a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right! "

Rise up this mornin',

Smiled with the risin' sun,

Three little birds

Pitch by my doorstep

Singin' sweet songs

Of melodies pure and true,

Sayin', "This is my message to you-ou-ou: "

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!

Every little thing gonna be all right. Don't worry! "

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing" - I won't worry!

"'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right" - I won't worry!

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, oh no!

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right!

It's all going to be fine Shaun. There is nothing to worry about. The medical profession know what they are doing when it comes to anesthetics. Honestly, there really is nothing to worry about. Once this is over you can get on with your life again. This time next week you will be thinking what was I worrying about. ❤️❤️❤️

It’ll all be absolutely fine, and after you recover from surgery you will have a new lease of life. My partner had colectomy 18m ago and was terrified, it has changed his whole life for the better. Focus on what the surgery will give you, and be assured that if there was a meaningful risk RE a general, they’d be talking about it to you. All the best and look forward to reading how you’re doing in a couple months ☺️

I don't think you're a scaredy cat or stupid. It's completely normal to feel scared. I think you are actually very brave. And you've still got your sense of humour about it as well from some of your comments. My advice would be to try and distract your mind from the event as much as possible. If you find your thoughts thinking about it and you feel the fear, try some deep breathing techniques. They've really helped me in the past. There's some really good meditation apps about. And I agree with the above comments. Focusing on the positive gains from doing this might help. I sincerely wish you all the best and I'm sure you will be fine and very relieved once it's all over and done with. Xxx

Have you talked to the surgeon about taking something beforehand to put your mind at ease a little?

You will wake up. I have had 4 major surgeries and despite being afraid, I woke up every time. Anesthesia is now very safe, but I would tell the anesthesiologist about your fears. xxx
