It has been such a long time since I have posted anything on here but I thought I would check in on you all and also I need my friends with me now too.
As most of you know I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in early February, since then I have had numerous trips to to the hospital with CT scans and a flexible sigmoidoscopy. I am now being admitted on Wednesday morning to have an Operation, a sigmoid Colectomy or a bowel resection. I am not going to lie I am absolutely s**tting myself ( pardon the pun), I know you all probably think I am a scaredy cat and stupid but I am so terrified that I am not going to wake up after the operation am also scared of having a general anaesthetic as haven’t had one since I was six, I am turning 41 on Tuesday. Please help me or give me some words of comfort.
It's all going to be fine Shaun. There is nothing to worry about. The medical profession know what they are doing when it comes to anesthetics. Honestly, there really is nothing to worry about. Once this is over you can get on with your life again. This time next week you will be thinking what was I worrying about. ❤️❤️❤️
It’ll all be absolutely fine, and after you recover from surgery you will have a new lease of life. My partner had colectomy 18m ago and was terrified, it has changed his whole life for the better. Focus on what the surgery will give you, and be assured that if there was a meaningful risk RE a general, they’d be talking about it to you. All the best and look forward to reading how you’re doing in a couple months ☺️
Hi Leo , it's strange I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you were doing , I don't think your a scary cat just human ,like all of us , and know I'd be scared too , but truly anesthetics are great you know nothing till its done and you wake to a nice cuppa , I will be thinking of you and look forward to hearing all went well and you on the road to recovery , God bless you xxx
I don't think you're a scaredy cat or stupid. It's completely normal to feel scared. I think you are actually very brave. And you've still got your sense of humour about it as well from some of your comments. My advice would be to try and distract your mind from the event as much as possible. If you find your thoughts thinking about it and you feel the fear, try some deep breathing techniques. They've really helped me in the past. There's some really good meditation apps about. And I agree with the above comments. Focusing on the positive gains from doing this might help. I sincerely wish you all the best and I'm sure you will be fine and very relieved once it's all over and done with. Xxx
I don't know how old you are but my Dad had a colostomy bag fitted at 77 he was under for about 4 hours, my Mum had a heart operation at 78 and was under for 6 hours, I had an operation at 48 and was under for 8 hours we were all fine. Not even sick.
Hi Edgar, I am 40 and will be 41 the day before my operation, that is amazing thank you for your kind words it really means a lot.
Hi leoshaun , it’s a scary thing having an op , but I’m sure you will sail through it , I’m due one too and I’m just terrified of the anaesthetic !! Stay strong , you can do it , trust xx
It is quite normal to feel scared but I am sure you will be fine and like someone else said this time next week it will all be over.Plan a little treat for when you feel better and have something to look forward to.Will think of you wednesday and send love and very best wishes.xx
It’s normal tobe scared and anxious about any op but it will be soon over . And you will be on the road to recovery . Take care and let us all know how it went .
Hi Easy to say but don't worry I have had anaesthetics for an operation plus endoscopy & colonoscopy on the same day & 2 knee surgery's you will be fine .
Sorry to hear about the reason for your surgery, stay strong & good luck to you .
Hello again , I just wondered how your getting on , I'm sure everything is fine , but wanted you to know I and I'm sure loads of others on here are thinking of you , don't worry about replying until you feel ready , wishing you a speedy recovery xx
Hi sweetheart, To be honest I am shitting myself, but not about the operation but being put to sleep and it is making me smoke too thinking about it, I know I shouldn’t but I am scared. How are you ? Xxxx
You will wake up. I have had 4 major surgeries and despite being afraid, I woke up every time. Anesthesia is now very safe, but I would tell the anesthesiologist about your fears. xxx
Hi Leo, I hope you don't mind me asking , but I was wondering how your doing after your surgery ,lve been thinking of you , but have no idea how to send a private message on here ,I really hope your recovering well and might possibly be home .Hope to hear from you soon ,best wishes xxx
Hello dear...... to be scared is human. When I get there I turn to yoga nidra on youtube. settles me down , the best I found is by Ally Boothroyd she has several and they are all wonderful..... helps me get into my body in a positive way. Sending love and positive energy your way.😍
