Appointment tomorrow
Hi everyone. I have a hospital appointment tomorrow and don’t hold much hope. Long story short... RAI in 2011. Now hypo and health has got worse over the years. Lots of symptoms. Never get anywhere trying to get a T3 trial. Last hospital appointment in September was a waste of time and was fobbed

Overwhelming Pain (I am new)
First, my screen name, say it like this `eye see you a lot`! I have had kyphoscoliosis, which causes overwhelming pain in my lower back. Recently I had Radio Frequency denervation, it did not work. I have also suffered for a long time with pain in joints, muscle weakness, and spasms, headaches, upset

My Thyroid Story Part III
My Thyroid Story Part III Dr UVW, endocrinologist 2013 was probably the worst year of my life – although the jury is still out on that one. It was like my own personal and private 2020. Almost every month, there was a new upsetting event to cope with. In January, I watered my Christmas hyacinth and

I hate my GP - making me feel like a drug addict
Just came off the telephone with the third GP I have spoken to in the last few months. I asked her to prescribe me either Tramadol or Codeine as the only thing helping me at the minute is taking shop bought Co-codamol and Nurofen Plus. I have tried Pramipexole and also now on Gabapentin 900mg. She said

My Thyroid Story Part II
Dr OPQ, GP/homeopath So, after lengthy chats with one of my students, who was a great fan of homeopathy, I thought I’d give that a go. Not much choice of doctors where I live, but managed to find one that also did acupuncture, which was a bonus. To his credit, he did say straight up that he didn’t know

Lap yesterday
Hi everyone! So I had my lap yesterday and my consultant said she found some endometriosis but didn’t tell me where! She said it’s stage 2 and I will have a telephone conversation to go over it in more detail. She did diothermy to kill the tissue and said it went well. I had to stay in because I was

My nightmare after taking Amitriptyline
I had never heard of Amitriptyline until my doctor suggested I take 1 every night to help with lower back pain....the only thing she really said was make sure to take it at night as it will make you sleepy..."Fair enough." I said and I left with my new medication to add to the collection. I am already

Sublinical Hypothyroidism?
Hi Everyone, I've recently been to A and E for palpitations and they have found no issue with my heart. This is the second time this has happened this year. These always come with the usual symptoms below that occur in the run up and aftermath. Usually I dose up on vitamins and it eventually seems to

Diet and exercise for hyperthyroidism?
Hi all, Has anyone tried a low iodine diet combined with exercise to control their overactive thyroid (Graves’ disease), either as a sole treatment or in conjunction with other treatments? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

The ABC of Disease book by Philip Day
Has anyone read the above book and especially his section on thyroid disease? He recommends, for hypo, taking Lugo's Iodine (self medicating before having to resort to thyroxine) - has anyone tried this? His advice on diet & supplements is also very helpful. Interestingly, he refers to the book called

Iodine Content of Celtic Sea Salt
We see many people mentioning that they get iodine from Celtic Sea Salt. I don't dispute that it does contain some iodine. But the amount might be rather less than we tend to imagine. I went to one company's web site (Selina) and checked on their plain Celtic Sea Salt. [i]Q. Does Celtic Sea Salt®

Iodine in end stage Hashimoto´s?
I had a thyroid ultrasound a couple of weeks ago which showed a "completely atrophied thyroid gland" according to the radiologist´s report. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 1999 based on very high anti-TPO and anti-thyroglobulin levels, but both have been in range for the last couple of years which

Colonoscopy
Another question Can I take mebeverine and buscopan before a colonoscopy? It says on letter to stop taking Imodium, codeine phosphate & lomotil 5 days before but doesn’t mention mebeverine and buscopan!

Morning after Orchiectomy...life in the slow lane.
Well, I had the orchiectomy surgery around 3 pm yesterday and left the hospital packed tightly down there....Got nervous about peeing...but it was a breeze (before I left). Was feeling some pretty decent weird pain....got home and made a quick dinner of thinly sliced prime rib in au jus with horseradish

Augmenting on everything
Hi, I've been on codeine phosphate 60mg for the past 6 months and it's been fantastic but once again I seem to be augmenting on it, I've augmented on everything, tramadol, dopamine agonists, etc.. I really thought codeine was going to work this time, iron supplements really helped over the past 2 years

Afib and Ibuprofen
I hurt my knee and now it is swollen. Can I take Ibuprofen for inflammation? I did take Tylenol for pain, but I don’t think it helps swelling. I would appreciate your advice .

When should I be taking these vitamins and tablets?
Hi I’m currently pregnant and taking more tablets than normal so wondered if anyone had any advice on when I should be taking the following? Levothyroxine - I take it as soon as I wake in the morning then wait an hour at least before eating or drinking tea. Iron - twice daily - I take it around midday

Home remedy/self-care suggestions for tension headaches
For the past five days I’ve been suffering really badly from this self induced tension headache. Which initially started from trying to get through to the GP for other reasons. But I’ve been trying all my usual methods: applying a cold compress, drinking Ginger tea, taking a bath, And have been avoiding

SSRI toxicity on thyroid ?
I've read that SSRIs contain halogen atoms that can substitute for Iodine (itself an halogen), making thyroid hormones inefficient. Will it show on the biology (normal T3 and T4 and higher TSH because it will not slow TSH secretion) ? I can't find anything online...
