Peritoneal dialysis
I am new to this site, hello! I am 65 years young, have been on peritoneal dialysis for a year and a half. I chose peritoneal over hemodialysis as I feel more normal and not wiped out after treatment. Getting a good night's sleep has been a challenge, seem to wake up every 2-3 hours. Just had to

Newbie. 41 CKD stage 4
In May of this year I learned that I have CKD, my GFR is 16, and told that I will likely be on dialysis within the next year and will need to be put on the transplant list. Suspect that I have chronic glomerulonephritis but can't be positive without a kidney biopsy, which is really difficult with no

Problems with the Medical Profession
As the B12 provided by the UK NHS has proved to be totally inadequate for my wife's needs, we have been supplementing her with injections of 1mg Methylcobolamin every month. This is proved to be literally a life-saver. She still gets a B12 shot every 3 months per NICE guidelines. Her recent blood

Help for PKD?
I have PDK stage 5. My gfr is 11. I am trying to stay off of dialysis. I have started to eat a primarily fruit and vegetable raw diet. Haven't had any tests since starting. I have psudotumor serebri and a pineal cyst in my brain. I know some PKD patients also have these. Do any of you have these

Itching like crazy! Help!
Hi, I'm 47 and was diagnosed with Lupus and kidney disease in 1997. I was on dialysis for almost 4 years. I received a bilateral kidney transplant in 2001 and also blessed with my daughter in 2006. Recently, I started itching all over my back and my stomach. It is driving me crazy that I can't sleep!

Hello
Hi I am just about to start dialysis and feeling extremely anxious about it. Just a simple question at the moment can you bathe with the peritoneal catheter? I have found it helpful and a little reassuring reading about other people's situations.

The 4 CKD Elements
Sodium, Potassium and Protein are usually listed on food nutrition labels, but seldom is Phosphorous. I avoid most prepared foods (like Progresso soups, Lean Cuisine frozen dinners, etc.). No colas, just diet lemon. I miss Fiber One and most Kashi cereals. I assume that processing fiber is hard

Organ failure coma
My mother has been in the hospital since the 15th of July. She was admitted into the ER and soon found out she was going through kidney failure. Dialysis was started on her. To make my entire struggle short, which is a long thing, things have gotten complicated for many reasons. I'm typing this out with

Hi all! I am a 20 year old college student (biology education major) and I currently have stage 4 CKD. I'm getting ready for transplant and I'm hoping that one of my family members are a match and I can get my transplant before dialysis (currently 18%). It's sort of weird for me because I was born with

New one
Hi I am new here Just got my diagnosis a few weeks ago. Hard to believe but I am stage 4 kidney failure. Unfortunately diagnosed after a biopsy was done. I have only been diabetic and on insulin for about 2 years and was keeping it under control I thought. I am very scared of ending up on dialysis

Long Term Treatment
Believe it, or not, and it does amaze me.....It's been Twenty Years, since I Collapsed with Vasculitis. I was given or, more correctly, my Mother was told that I had 'Less Than An Hour' to live. I AM aware that it is only due to the skills/care of Surgeons/Doctors, along with my Mother's ceaseless love

Need some advice, should I start dialysis?
Hi everyone. I'm a longer time reader, first time poster! I would appreciate hearing your experiences of starting dialysis. I have CKD stage 5 with a gfr of between 9-12. I also have anaemia which I am going to have a blood transfusion to try to help with this. My plan for dialysis is to have PD at home
