Recommend Home Dialysis?
Hi - My dad has been on dialysis since October 2018. He seems like he's been getting depressed and wants to now shift to dialysis in the home. We're worried and would prefer him to be under the supervision of medical staff, but also understand how draining it can be to work full time and go to the dialysis

The ups and downs of dialysis. Where do I start?
Well on Valentine's Day 2014 I was diagnosed with ESRD. Did peritoneal dialysis at home. Enjoyed the convenience, only had one infection and I'm not downplaying the infection, but it wasn't contracted via not following procedure on my part. I started with a machine and eventually went to hanging

Remicade; anyone on it?
Is anyone on this site with CKD have to use remicade for another condition? If so, how does it affect your CKD? Do you get an infusion? Can you use it if you are on dialysis? Please let me know.

Follow that kidney diet
I found out last August for the first time that my kidneys were damaged from years of using ibuprofen for chronic pain from a car accident. My gfr was 40 to 45. My creatinine, protein, and potassium were all high. I was seriously upset. So, I found this online group, fed myself a strict kidney diet,

Need to do more than control Creatinine levels?
As I understand it, high levels of creatinine indicates poor kidney function, therefore if I can lower my creatinine level by some other action or change of diet etc, the poor kidney function would still be present and would continue to decline and eventually dialysis would be needed? Am i correct? So

Dad in ICU fighting pneumonia and is slow to wake up from induced coma
Hi everyone. I’m wondering if anyone has any encouragement for our situation. My dad is 78 but has always been extremely healthy - a marathon runner until his back stopped him from running and now he’s been an avid swimmer for years and has had no real medical issues. He had a stem cell transplant

New to Haemo dialysis
I started haemo dialysis last week so done 6 sessions now and already seen a big decline on my output. It use to be 450mls. My input is 600mls and output is only 100 to 150mls, i still feel the urge to pee but nothing happens. I'm still taking my diuretic of 240mg of fruseomide, which use to be twice

Potentially odd question about dialysis
So I am looking at all my options. And I was wondering if anybody has gone on dialysis prior to stage 4. I am stage 3a, but I am feeling a lack of ability in regards to what I normally can do physically. I'd like to hold off the fatigue and such and get back to my normal(ish) life. I am normally athletic

Getting ready to start Dialysis
I had a visit with my Dr. yesterday. EGFR is down to 10. Although I am still not showing symptoms Dr feels we should start considering dialysis no later than three months. According to my neurologist symptoms are often not seen in PKD patients because the progression is very slow. Not sure how I feel

1 year and counting.
Yesterday marks 1 year since I started dialysis. Some good and some bad days but mostly good. I'm patiently waiting for someone to step up and offer that gift of life, a kidney. Good luck and God bless all of you.

Heart failure and kidney failure
Hi, A close friend of my be was diagnosed with lupus sle back in 2013, I think it had something to do with her pregnancy. Her health has been up and down since. She had another child recently and has been gravely ill ever since. I found out yesterday from one of her family members that she has heart

Private Health Insurance while ESRD
I am taking care of my husband who has been on dialysis for over a year. He goes into a dialysis clinic m-w-f. We moved almost 2,000 miles in September to be near family. He is not getting the proper care through the VA in Texas and we were told that no private health insurance will cover him because

Renal Dialysis Side Affects
I started out on peritoneal dialysis which I could do myself at home every night. Never felt bad and I was able to travel. After my automobile accident I had to switch to renal dialysis. This is my third year dealing with this dialysis. It makes me feel dragged out every time. Sometime I am unable to

Great conversation from all!
I am so appreciative of everyones comments! Positive comments always help during difficult times! I started HD three times a week after putting off dialysis for months until my eGFR finally hit 8 and creatinine hit 6.56. I weighed the pros and cons of HD vs PD and thought at this time HD would be
