I have been on dialysis for about 18 months and really have had very little side effects either before, during, or after. I am still producing urine. Question: How have you done on dialysis? How long have you been on it? Do you have problems the longer you are on it? What kind of problems have you had or are having?

DIALYSIS
Hi!! I’m so glad you’ve been doing well on dialysis, some of us are lucky and have very little difficulty with it. I was on dialysis for ten years until getting my transplant in 2017. Like you, I had very few side effects and very little problems with it. I did suffer thru cramps once in a while, usually because I’d eaten badly the day before! The worst I’d have after was that sometimes I’d be really tired and have to take a nap and then I’d be good to go. I continued doing practically everything I had before with a few changes and moderation. Our family continued our yearly vacations to Disneyworld, having set up my dialysis way ahead of time. By the time I started dialysis I was no longer producing urine which for me meant while everyone else was trying to find bathrooms I was spared!!😂 For all that time the worst I can think of was occasional nausea, a little cramping and occasional insomnia. Oh, and Difficulty keeping up with my liquid intake the first couple of years. I was going to a clinic, three times a week and so had the best people possible in attendance.
Hope this helps you!!
Hugs, Dotti
I was on dialysis for 2&1/2 yrs before transplant in 2012. I did well for that time except for extreme leg cramps sometimes after 2 yrs. I kept my albumin up all the time by eating lots of protein. I won the contest monthly for the highest albumin. Dialysis told me that is most important, along with watching your fluid intake. GOOD LUCK!!
