Don't panic
Don't panic. Read books. Start with Learn the Facts about Kidney Disease by Steven Rosansky, MD. He thoroughly covers it in all stages. Although you need to make changes in your life, preserve your remaining kidney function, you're not going to die next week and probably never end up on dialysis. Don't

17 months and counting...
I've lived without kidneys for 17 months and am doing very well! All my labs are were they should be and I have dialysis at home. The routine gets a bit monotonous, but that's life.

Hemodialysis question
I did PD from Feb 2023 to July 2023 when it failed and sent me to hospital. In August they put a chest catheter in and I started hemodialysis. After 3 treatments it cleared up the problems I was having on PD. At first I was doing Tues, Thur, and Sat in center for 3 hours and 15 minutes. My kt/V was

Phosphorous questions
I have been on home hemo now for almost four months. My phosphorous has steadily increased. I never had issues with Phos until dialysis. They have put me on Sevelamer binder, which totally cemented me up, when I took two a day. I mean in pain constipation. I backed off to one a day, when they wanted

Interest in home dialysis
Hi there, I'm looking to better understand the dialysis experience in hopes of improving it, especially better understanding home dialysis pain points. Would anyone be open to connecting to discuss their experience, or taking < 3 minutes to complete this survey? https://1eo2uvqe1o8.typeform.com/to/XfW4C9rN

Introduction
I joined a month or so ago. Got a very nice email from someone who really supports this website pushing me to contribute. Normally don't do this but here goes. I'm 65 and retired. Found out I had kidney disease in 1984. Untreated strep infection (theory then). Got bad quick. Asked family on Christmas

Mom and ICU
In December 2023, my mom learned she has colon cancer. On December 28, 2023 she went into the hospital to have a colon resection to remove the cancerous area. This was done robotically. After the surgery she was groggy but responsive. On day 2 post op my mom started having delirium (hospital psychosis

eGFR moving up???
My eGFR first registered below "normal" February 2018. But it wasn't until January 2020 that I saw the CKD diagnosis on my chart. By then I was at eGFR of 28 and stage 4. Then July 2020 I had a dehydration crisis and ended up with an eGFR of 7. My primary care Dr. assumed it was from T2D. But I still

Itch problem
[i]My husband still has uncontrollable itching from his kidney failure. He has an extreme itchy time sitting for hours in a vinyl chair at dialysis. He sometimes has to disconnect early and leave. I cannot find any type of cushion or something cold to order that would keep his back from flaring up

Anyone on peritoneal dialysis?
Hello, My father is 83 years old and his eGFR is now 8. The doctors want to start the process for home peritoneal dialysis overnight. We are feeling quite anxious as a family and I would appreciate your support. Can anyone offer their experiences on starting PD, physically and mentally how they feel

To poop or not to poop, that is the question
I am about to embark on taking a phosphorous binder. I will be taking Sevelamer or Renvela at 800mg, one tablet with meals. I only eat two meals a day. WHAT can I do to prevent constipation. I already have an issue with it because of Ozempic and being on dialysis. I had to stop eating oatmeal every day

Hi there. Thank you for letting me join the group. 6 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease and am on regular dialysis. I have since developed restless leg syndrome which has got steadily worse. Pramipexole was prescribed but honestly doesn't help much. As soon as I sit down to relax it

Choosing your own in-center doctor?
Hello, everyone! My mom has been at her new dialysis center for about three months, and the doctor and NP assigned to her are pretty terrible. We noticed that a former patient had their own nephrologist who came to the center to go over lab results and handle any dialysis-related issues. That patient

Can a dialysis patient use protein power?
My protein level is low even with the Pro-Stat the kidney center gives to me, Is it ok to use whey protein powder? i mean in it the potassium is 160 mg per serving, Cholesterol is 55mg. I'm a dialysis person.I'm thinking cutting the per serving to half so to decrease the potassium.

Dialysis or Transplant?
I have had 19 blood readings of 20 or less (to 11) since May 2021. Currently 14. Exhausted. Fatigued is not the word! There has been no talk of transplant at all. Only Haemodialysis, as I am on my own with no support it would be in hospital. Also it would be in a satellite premises a 1.5 hours
