My husband still has uncontrollable itching from his kidney failure. He has an extreme itchy time sitting for hours in a vinyl chair at dialysis. He sometimes has to disconnect early and leave. I cannot find any type of cushion or something cold to order that would keep his back from flaring up while he sits so long. Has anyone out there found an item they use? Thank you!

Itch problem
Oh my goodness, your poor hubby, I so feel for him. I hope folks in the know can give some advice…I’ll watch this post with interest x
So sorry to hear this. I had a similar issue and used a donut cushion and added some reusable cold packs. You can get these at most drugstores or online. In any regard I wish you find something to aid him.
Donut cushion ….a towel can be placed over it to adjust comfort:

Ice Packs can also be used to relieve itching on any part of body:
My hubby also had that rash all over his back and shoulders when he was on dialysis. He not only a hard time with it in the chair but also in bed since he's a back sleeper. Spraying his shoulders and back with Dermoplast helped somewhat. My hubby was also told by his doctor that he could take child-size Zyrtec to tamp own the rash. (For dialysis patients, apparently meds impact/influence the body differently hence the adjustment.) Evidently, that rash is often the outcome of high phosphorus. He really tried hard to keep that in check via binders and diet, but the rash continued to go on. I suspect some have more sensitive skin than others. Really hope this helps you and your hubby. It's a terrible condition to have.
Thank you so much. Yes Herb has the issue at night too and gets up scratching and putting on creams. His prosperous has never been high on lab reports but he is also on Keytruda for his cancer and of course rashes are listed as a side effect of that drug too.
Maybe a full seat cooling cover may work for your hubby. Truckers often use them. I know some big box stores carry them. Take a good look either in-store or on-line and look at the reviews for one that may work for you. Here's an example: walmart.com/ip/Sojoy-Gel-Ca...
my mom, with dialysis itching, is undergoing UV phototherapy treatment, and this has helped her immensely. Nothing else helped: herbs, ointment, Zyrtec, Benadryl, ice, nothing helped. UV lights have come like a miracle therapy so far.

Most , infact all our dialysis patients are given a bed to lay on for the full length of their dialysis treatment. If I had to sit in those vinyl chairs to have mine I would have to refuse as those chairs draw me and give me a sore bottom. Next time before you start tell them about how the chairs draw you and you really need to be given a bed in order to complete your course of dialysis . Stand your ground , they are suppose to make you comfy for the 4hoursyou are there so make sure you are comfy. Your dialysis is important to you, it's what now keeps you alive so please don't cut short your sessions sort a comfortable bed out or reschedule your dialysis until one is made available for you all the best ,that my advice, Good luck.xx
Chipstore the chairs recline but the heat aggravates my husband's rash. We are in Florida but I don"t see beds anywhere for dialysis. Where are you?
I am in the u.k. however it doesn't matter it sounds to me the vinyl draws him like it does me you need to inform the immediate nursing staff about your problems and that you have been advised bya retired registered nurse which I am of 37yrs in the u.k. that a patients comfort must be adhered to at all times no matter what country you live in. You need a bed stand your ground my love please.xx
