Trabeculectomy

I’m due to have a trabeculectomy in a few weeks. As a keen ( mainly open water) swimmer I have been told that I can’t swim for several weeks after the surgery. Online reading and the glaucoma UK trabeculectomy information booklet confirmed this.

, Matthew started a YouTube channel called the ‘Glaucoma Pirates’ to raise awareness On his You Tube channel 'Glaucoma Pirates', he has posted a number of videos, some relating to his Trabeculectomy and follow up treatment/procedures which follow his journey.

I am booked in tomorrow morning to have some stitches re-inserted into my Trabeculectomy bleb. I have had two months of blurred vision due to very low pressure (4/5). I’m keen to get a positive result here.

I wake up with light refraction in my eye as I look at the clock, when I shut my left eye, I see nothing but blurring. I’m getting used to my normal daily activities and use my distance glasses when I’m outdoors. I am lucky that I have good left vision , so I can still do my painting and craftwork.

I had this procedure done 5 days ago. Although my eye feels fine ( a bit blurred) I would like to know if others feel that it’s been worth it. I am 72 and already had lost some vision in that eye. Fortunately my other eye is still good.

Hello, I have advanced normal tension glaucoma and despite various interventions eye pressures remain normal which is higher than my consultant would like so I’m on the list for a trabeculectomy. I would love to hear from anyone with ntg who has had a trab and what the outcome was. Thank you

I was diagnosed with advanced glaucoma in June 2024, and as my consultant said I could lose my vision within a year, I had a trabeculectomy on my left eye in September.

I wrote on here over a week ago about my injury leading to a trabeculectomy in December. My eye pressure has dropped to 7 and now 2, after the surgery.

Hi, I had cataract surgery and a Trabeculectomy 5 days ago and want to know if I can wash my hair yet??

I had a trabeculectomy in my left eye on 16th September. For the first week my eye was sore and uncomfortable, which I am sure is normal. At my 2nd follow up appointment my surgeon put in a bandaged contact lens due to a small leak from one of the sutures.

With regards to my other eye, my private consultant has suggested I have a Miniject Suprachoroidal implant combined with cataract surgery, whereas my NHS consultant had offered me another trabeculectomy, or Preserflo microshunt.

Since last March, following a trabeculectomy, my husband has been prescribed Trusopt, 3 doses per day. This has never been a problem, until last weekend when the pharmacist in Superdrug refused to split a box of 60, and would only give out one box.

On the third morning I had a bloodied area on the white of my right 'trabeculectomy' eye.According to the optician I saw today it's just a subconjunctival haemorrhage. But I'm not prone to these, and my eye has not looked this bad, even after the trab surgery in June.

I am extremely anxious about my upcoming trabeculectomy and am almost at the point of declining treatment and let nature take its course. I have done a huge amount of research and also had a private consultation and remain unconvinced that this is the correct course of action for me.

I had worn contact lenses from the age of 16 and in my sixties , I decided to go private for cataract surgery and a trabeculectomy.

I am finding it difficult to find any info of how to take care of myself ie washing hair, bending etc. there is plenty of info on aftercare after a Trabeculectomy not so on a Trabeculotomy.

This is 5 weeks after my trabeculectomy was performed. Still very blurred vision in that eye and on maxidex drops 4 times a day. At least the excessive liquid in my eye has abated although I still wake with haloes in my eye. I need to keep positive that everything is working out for me.

Had right eye trabeculectomy in 2019 and that eye has been fairly stable since. The left eye had a XEN implant In 2019, cataract surgery in 2022, retinal detachment in 2023, and selective laser trabeculectomy in July 2024.

I'm continuing on my journey with things after sustaining an injury to eye which lead to high eye pressure, leading me to have a trabeculectomy in December. My eye pressure has dropped too much since the surgery, at around 2 now.

I had a trabeculectomy in January and had needling done 13 days ago. My pressure dropped to 1 and I was prescribed Atropine drops. It rose to 2 a few days later but not much improvement.
