For anyone interested in following my journey!
In February, I decided to get a second opinion, as my vision was still extremely blurry 21 weeks following a trabeculectomy on my left eye in September, and after being told in January (by my NHS consultant) that my next review wouldn't be for 3 months. Although I was reluctant to go down the private route, I am so glad I did. As well as confirming that I have cataracts in both eyes, the consultant strongly advised that intervention was necessary in the next few weeks. My understanding is that my trab is working too well, and that the pressure is too low, which is why my retina is undulating. He was also surprised that post op my consultant had removed all the sutures. My consultant has suggested that I have a procedure called Viscoelastics (a gel injection), which is scheduled for the 15th March, and although this isn't without risks, if successful, it is hoped that it will bring the pressure up a little, smooth out the retina and hopefully improve my vision.
With regards to my other eye, my private consultant has suggested I have a Miniject Suprachoroidal implant combined with cataract surgery, whereas my NHS consultant had offered me another trabeculectomy, or Preserflo microshunt. I also know that this procedure isn't available under my NHS consultant. I just wondered if anyone has had any experience of the Miniject - apparently my new consultant was the first person to perform this surgery in this country in 2022!
