Trabeculotomy

I had cataract surgery 16 days ago and a Trabeculotomy at the same time. I am finding it difficult to find any info of how to take care of myself ie washing hair, bending etc. there is plenty of info on aftercare after a Trabeculectomy not so on a Trabeculotomy.

Hello. The aftercare will be the same as a Trabeculectomy.

Keeping your eye dry as much as possible.

Not lifting anything heavy or bending over so that your head is below your heart.

If you need to pick anything up, try to squat instead.

Using the eye cap at night to stop you from sleeping on the eye.

Wearing protective wraparound glasses when you go out to help stop any dust getting into the eye.

I would second the above comments. It's important not to lift anything that pulls your stomach, or bend . I took it easy for 2 months and have come through with good vision and no need for drops. Good luck.

Hi I have a Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy and cataract removal recently. My consultant given me the same information as my first cataract surgery without a GTT, I did not wash my hair for the 3 days and when I did I wore the eye shield to keep the water out of my eye., it worked until the sticky tape became under sticky, lucky it was the end of the shower and my hair is shoulder length, I shower with my back towards the shower, as for bending I squat, I was never told to keep my head above my heart, so I just did what felt comfortable to me like resting my shoe on the edge of the bed to do my shoe laces up, I did not wear wrap round glasses either, because I wear glasses, I was not allowed to drive for 8 weeks after recovery until my last appointment with my consultant, it is a long recovery you will get there, I have mine in June and was discharged in August 8 weeks later and now I am back to driving etc. wish you all the best in your recovery.

I am 86 and have had removal of cataracts and two lots of laser surgery. My advice is to follow the instructions you were given, be positive, and all should be well. You have been given ample guidance here, too, so stop worrying! 👍😁😘

Thank you. I had the loss of my 2 dear sisters during the first week after my op so my stress level has been through the roof. I am slowly getting there and the advice and support on here has really helped.🥰😘

I’m so sorry to hear of you are having a sad time and dealing with worries of an op. I’m going through the loss of a sibling at the moment, so to have that to deal with that, whilst also having an important op must be incredibly hard. I just want to send you my sympathy and empathy plus lots of strength. I hope your op has the positive outcome you hope for.👍🏻 ❤️
