my husband had a HA in 2018, stent fitted and has been well since albeit on a daily regime of tablets. During that time he has had to switch statins 3 times due to pain and cramps in shoulders. He is now suffering terribly from continuous cramping in his legs. Do you feel it is the statins causing this? I’ve told him he needs to go,back to GP to see if there is an alternative to statins or I it’s safe for him to stop taking them but being a man he is provaricting! Has anyone else on her had issues similar to this with statins?

cramps caused by statins?
I had a bypass 2019 and have been on statins since four changes in that time and still have terrible pain and cramps in my leg’s mostly at night. I stopped taking them and within two weeks the pains and cramps had gone. Next blood test (about six weeks later) my cholesterol level was high. GP strongly advised to start taking statins again. Guess what pain and cramps. 😩

Has he tried Pravastatin?
If yes and it is intolerable he should be placed on a PCSK 9 inhibitor.
Hello Picasso652,
I'd been on statins since a HA in 2019, and had muscle-related side effects in my legs throughout. With my GP's approval, the current statin has been stopped while I try to control a high non-HDL cholesterol level without it. (That's not something I'd recommend to others, though. It's just something I want to try before resorting to other drugs.)
There are alternatives to statins, for example:

So your husband needs to see his GP to discuss the best treatment for him.
All the best 🙂
yes, I had problems with all of the different statin pills.
My doctor put me on Repatha injections every two weeks, which I have no problems doing myself and no more horrible cramps. I have no side effects at all and my cholesterol is perfect.
I am in Canada so the medication might have a different name in your country, but your doctor can advise you on that.
Good luck

I had an heart attack in 2018 also. My shoulders were really aching so in the end I went to A&E and they checked me and told me that I had, had an heart attack.i had 6 stents fitted and put on 4 different tablets I have a statin, aspirin, bisperol and ramapril. I've been ok apart from one tablet I took made me short of breath and I went to see my GP and changed the tablet and have been alright since.
Hi, just to add my experience, am taking 20mg of Crestor, I was getting a lot of leg pain back pain, so I decided to go off the statin for a month, the results where, my back pain was caused by tightening muscles, spending to much time laying on the couch, one session of physio sorted that out. Leg pain did improve. But I had to go back on the statin because of my heart disorder. So I done so more research and found out that moderate exercise help with statin muscle issues. Therefore as am a farmer on my feet all day, ci decided to take the Crestor in the mornings, as you can do, and to my surprise it made a great difference to my sore legs.
