My life with Lupus, etc.!
By 19, I underwent
Splenectomy
for auto-immune Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia, thought to be the natural precursor to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus , which was 'finally' diagnosed, age 22. My prognosis was not good. By then, I had done S.R.N. training (chosen to do in 2 instead of 3years).

Splenectomy or other options?
The hematologist is now recommending a
splenectomy
. Nplate could be an option. We would have to drive 2 hrs every week for the Dr to give the injection. Or is a
splenectomy
our best option at this point?

Should I go for splenectomy?
Now doctors suggested me
splenectomy
. They also told me there is only 50% changes that platelets will rise after
splenectomy
. I am concerned what if it does not work like medicines did not work, I will be without spleen and ITP.

Splenectomy didn’t work now what?
Had
splenectomy
10 weeks ago platelets were normal till today was down to 50000. I knew going in was only 50% chance of curing but my Dr recommended and so I took the chance. I was taking end plate injections and they had stopped working. The Steroids didn’t work.

ITP SPLENECTOMY vs
In Australia I am unable to access any of the ITP drugs such as Promacta/Eltrombopag etc unless I have had a failed
splenectomy
. I am now considering
splenectomy
as I have run out of options & sitting dangerously low. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Platelet levels keep falling
I had a
splenectomy
many years ago, is there anyone on MTX who has no spleen and did you have the same problem? If so, what was the outcome? I was told this was unusual that my platelet count keeps falling but I have read posts here that this does happen, so bit confused.
