STRESSED ABOUT HIGH CHOLESTEROL
I was started to Simvastatin a number of years ago after diet changes did do anything to my levels. Simvastatin did not bring my levels down at all so was put on Lipitor 20mg but when my levels were still not coming down significantly it was combined with Ezetimibe 10mg. My levels came down from

Statins
I have just read a very interesting article due to be published in Wednesday's Daily Mail about statins and sleep. It appears the statin Simvastatin has been linked with causing both sleep disturbance and weight gain. I am on this statin and suffer from both these things. I would be interested in hearing

Have been told to take Stanol by consultant, not having much luck finding it. Anyone heard of it?
First lipid consultation yesterday has left me reeling! All too much too fast and would appreciate some perspective if anyone has any advice to offer. LDL 5.2, overall 7.3. Had to stop simvastatin, have a genetic muscle problem. Consultant changed blood pressure tablets, told me to stop eating practically

How can I get my GP to refer me to a lipid clinic
I'm 42, always exercised a good deal ie most days, always had a good diet ( even better now following heart uk advice) and never overweight. Never smoked. Diagnosed with likely FH 2 years ago. Total chol 8.6 but with a LDL/HDL ratio of 5.6/2.3. Prescribed simvastatin 40mg and now atorvostatin

Possible side effects since moving on to generic atorvastatin - continue or stop taking meds?
Hi everyone. I only discovered Heart UK a few days ago, and have already received a wealth of useful diet information. I'd like some advise regarding (possibly) coming off statins, I'll try to keep this as short and to the point as possible! I'm 42, male, and have been taking Lipitor 20mg (atorvastatin

What will they do/ask me on a first visit to a lipid clinc?
Went to Dr and was told my cholesterol was 14.3!!!! SOme other number was high but couldn't take much in after he repeatedly kept saying he'd never seen as result as high!!! He's referred me to a lipid clinic but I've no idea what to expect. I've tried to start eating healthy by lowering the saturated

Lack of knowledge and awareness of APS amongst the medical profession. Region-Northwest of England
Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with APS in 2007 following 3 DVTs and a bilateral Pulmonary Emobolism. My long term medication consists of Warfarin and 40mg Simvastatin daily. My INR range is between 3-4 but very rarely meets this reading despite weekly blood tests. These tests are made up of venous

I may be stupid and that is one answer but if i am not then someone may have the answer for me. Either way i get a result. I had a heart attack followed by a quad bypass(during which i suffered cardiac arrest) and was found to have FH. My current total chol is 4.5. I had been taking medication(Bisoprolol

My Cholesterol Experience
Hello Everybody, here is my story, my Grandma died age 48 in 1973 prior to my birth and my Father died in 1986 when I was 11, both had high cholesterol and both died of heart attacks. I was tested as a result of my fathers death and found to have high cholesterol, I don't know what level it was back

are there any alternatives to statins
I`ve been taking Simvastatin for about 6 weeks, but I had to stop because they were making me feel very tired & drowsy, & every time I ate something I`d fall asleep. I haven`t taken any for about 4 days, & am steating to feel better. The trouble is that I know that my cholesterol levels need to be kept

Having suffered a lot, and partially still, from diverse serious adverse effects by a statin (or better: by simvastatin + amlodipin)...
I'd be very happy to learn about... the additional worth of lumbal punction to a muscle biopsy. I'm suffering still from: muscle weakness, strong cognitive deterioration, gastro intestinal problems... to mention the worst. Soon a muscle biopsy will be done b/c my ck level was just fine and blood

I suffer from Atrial Fibrilation which resulted in my having a stroke just over 3 years ago since then I have been on a Beta blocker tablet
(Atenolol), Warfarin, Simvastatin and (since last December) Flecainide tablets each day. In the last 3-4 months I have been experiencing aches and pains in my thigh muscles, approximately 5-6 inches above the knee. I bought this to the attention of my GP and queried if the statins were the cause of

Pulmonary Fibrosis...........still sucks but what a difference a day makes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In a nutshell. 3 weeks ago my dads consultant said there was nothing that could be done for him. life expectancy was 2 years from diagnosis (which was 4 yrs ago) and he would arrange pallative care. TODAY Went to see a private consultant in Cardiff who specialises in PB. WOW. He's good. So for all

Seen consultant for cholesterol results, levels down a little with diet but unsure what to do next. Any comments very welcome!
Results are : TC 7.5 (down 1.1), LDL 6.0 (down 0.9) and trigs 0.94 (down 0.56). Am pleased with this as stopped statins 3 months ago and wanted to see if I could make improvements with diet. (Lower carb, and following Portfolio diet to a certain extent). Consultant said this was pretty insignificant
