Statins - all white now
I collected my repeat prescription for simvastatin yesterday and the brand of generic simvastatin had changed again - and these aren't pink like the TEVA and Meidrich ones I've been taking recently without problems. These pills are white, just like the ones that I was taking before when I came out in

Statins and PMR?
Someone has suggested to me that taking statins increases your chances of getting PMR. Is there any basis to this? I take 40mg of simvastatin every night and it has done wonders for my cholesterol which wouldn't shift on a strict diet.

Disappointment at a Consultation
So I saw the consultant and basically nothing's changed. TC 5.0mmol/L, LDL 3.7 (target 4.2), HDL 1.0, Tri 0.3, all within 0.1 of last year IIRC. I've put on a little weight and waist and my CK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatine_kinase) levels are up, but I was borderline-underweight before and those

Simvastatin
Hi to everyone....newbie here. Can anyone please tell me if erratic memory loss is a side effect of Simvastatin? I have heard memory loss is common amongst people taking statins but it does not mention this on the Simvastatin leaflet. My memory is constantly terribly erratic, hit and miss, just as though

Statin Holiday?
as previously mentioned, I am intolerant of statins - simvastatin. The symptoms seem to creep up on me and build over a period of time. I have been on 10mg for 6 months - but the lethargy and tiredness and general feeling of brain fuzz is now intolerable. I wanted to ask if anyone has tried a 6 months

Wondering what to do about a possible side-effect (multiple Qs)
I joined this site after I had two strange lumps appear in under a month. They were red, smooth, slightly raised and a bit under 1cm across. The first lump was diagnosed by a GP as an infected hair follicle and he put me on high-dose ibuprofen to deal with the swelling. The swelling stopped hurting

The Test Approaches
I see the consultant in March and now it's February so I start thinking about the blood test more. For various reasons, it's going to be further ahead of the appointment than usual, so I'm now trying to make sure there are no significant gaps in my medication, diet or exercise for a week or two, to see

Thyroid Prescriptions In England - 2009
The world of thyroid opened to me a few years ago when someone very close plummeted into the hell of severe hypothyroidism. Since then there is an imperative to try to help other thyroid sufferers. By blogging here maybe I can put forward some information, some ideas, which deserve wider airing. That

If you have trouble tolerating statins, does it make it more likely that you will have trouble with fibrates as well?
I only ask this question because I am experiencing troublesome side effects very similar to simvastatin, mostly painful muscle cramps and very disturbing dreams, since I have been taking fibrates. Husband also says I underwent personality changes but this could have been stress over Christmas and lack

Statins and SLE - which statins are safe to use with SLE?
Having High Cholesterol of 8.2 and a host of AI conditions I was prescribed Simvastatin. After 6 weeks of muscle pain, fatigue and finally shingles (which has subsequently lasted 4 mths) I stopped taking Simvastatin. My GP just said "stop taking it then" and hasn't suggested an alternative..... Is there
