Hi all
Ive been on statins for 15 years and been getting awful cramps and muscle aches last 3 yrs. Docs advised I stop taking it for 2 week trial to see if aches & cramp stop. Been 4 days and no difference yet. Anyone with any similar trials?

Sometimes changing the statin helps. I have had mine changed to bezafibrate with good results.
I was getting cramps on atorva statin. Eased as soon as I stopped taking them, gone in about a fortnight.
Sorry to worry you, but I did read patient comments from the USA that if you keep taking Statins through muscle cramps, the effects sometimes become permanent
I think you will find 2 weeks is not long enough. I h ave just come off simvastatin and changed after 6 weeks to provastatin but have not noticed much if any difference.

Hi 2squirrels
I have previously taken Atorvastatin, simvastatin and Rosuvastatin. I stopped taking all of these because of muscle and memory problems. The Rosuvastatin was probably the worst for me....memory was erratic and intermittent and muscles....argh...i felt like i had two broken toes(i know what that feels like because i have had broken toes) and i could hardly walk. I am also now on Pravastatin( my GP insists vehemently that i must take Statins!) and would be interested to know how you get on with it also.
Thank you.
I agree, 2 weeks doesn't seem very long. I had bad muscle cramps with all the statins, but you may not.
My chemist has just given me simvastatin again by mistake but I will let you know when I get them changed again but my husband has been the best on atorvastatin. If you push your Doctor there is one statin which is given to people with a high statin intolerance but it is very expensive. I can find out the name tomorrow as a friend of mine is on it.
Thank you very much, i look forward to your reply. Any and all information as i fight my cholesterol battle(or should i say statin battle) is very much appreciated.
I know what you mean about statin battle. I feel so much better all round for stopping them, I suppose only time will tell whether I've made the right decision...but it's right for me.
2squirrels, I think it's only rosuvastatin that is still on patent, so that would probably be the expensive one .
Still waiting to hear from someone whether I should be taking 1 or 6 of cholestagel !. Sticking to one at the moment.
Forgot to say that my GP has started me on Pravastatin 10mg with the intention of increasing this monthly up to 40mg(think he said 40,could have been 20). Why do they do this? When i have changed statins in the past i have just gone straight onto the high mg tablets.
Since i stopped taking the Rosuvastatin the pain of feeling like i have two broken toes appears to be subsiding.....hope i have not spoken too soon!
How are you doing on the Pravastatin 2squirrels?
Maybe it's because you've had problems tolerating statins in the past, so they are starting you gently! I think the official medical term is titration. Good luck.
