A newbie question about vitamin D3
Before discovering compression fractures due to osteoporosis, I was taking various vitamin supplements. ( this is going to sound like I’m a hypochondriac, but I was trying to stay healthy). I had Garlic tablets, Glucosamine& Chondroitin, vit B, vit D3 and zinc. After my DEXA scan, my old GP put me on

Diarrhoea saga continued
I've had diarrhoea on and off for over a year. It started after breakfast and stopped around lunch time, not every day, but about 3 days a week. It's been slowly getting more frequent. A month or so ago I spoke to the GP who first diagnosed me with PMR/GCA. She tested me for coeliac and cancer, both

Docosahexaenoic Acid Reverses Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition and Drug Resistance ...
New Chinese cell study [1]. Docosahexaenoic Acid [DHA] is one of the two marine omega-3 fatty acids that people seem to have become bored with. Are supplements good or bad? Why do the softgels have an "off" taste? Is the oil oxidized, rancid, etc."I like to get my DHA from fish. For breakfast I

Paper on the design of B12 deficiency treatment protocols
This might be one of the most fascinating papers I've read on B12 deficiency and treatment, with several sections exploring how symptoms relate back to the particular biochemistry processes that go wrong in deficiency. The paper was produced in 2021 for the B12 Institute, Netherlands, a specialist B12

Osteopenia and travel insurance
Hi I'm hoping someone can help me! I had a DEXA scan in 2020 and was recommended by GP to take alendronic acid due to osteopenia in my spine. I did some research and declined. Instead, improved my diet, working on exercising more, use a Marodyne Low Intensity Vibration machine and take some supplements

Does tranexamic acid work?
Hi guys. I've had an ablation, and it failed. I had the mirena, and I had 2 rounds of the depo injection and I'm still bleeding so so bad. 2 periods a month now on average, so I'm finally on the list for a hysterectomy. Doctor has now put me on tranexamic acid in the hope that it will help. Last month

kidney stones??
for the last week or so I have been suffering with intermittent severe sharp pains in the area of my right kidney. No warning and happens around 5 to 10 times each day. Never while I’m lying down, sometimes when I stand up or turn while sitting and sometime when I’m standing and bend. It’s very painful

Dental work and AA
I am having a tooth implant done this week, on Wednesday. The surgeon knows I take Alendronic Acid and has advised to not take it on the morning of the procedure. He also said it was okay to take (should take?) a 3 month holiday from Alendronic Acid. Have you heard of that? The procedure involves drilling

Prostap wearing off
Hi, has anyone had experience of the Prostap 3 month injection wearing off earlier than 3 months? I had a light period with period pain 3 weeks ago and now I'm having a very painful heavy period just like my normal one. I'm due my injection on Friday. For the last 3 weeks I've felt mild endo main. I've

Magnesium and the heart
I stopped taking my magnesium supplement (not prescribed) about a month ago in the hope that my persistent morning diarrhoea would clear up. It hasn't. But I have noticed, on my Fitbit records, that my sleep quality has gone right down, my resting heart rate has increased from 60 to 72, and my heart

Severe bleeding and high blood pressure on Tibolone
Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has had similar symptoms to what I’m having. I was started on Tibolone 5 weeks ago as an add back to Prostap SR while waiting for surgery 2 weeks ago I started bleeding heavily with massive clots. I called the consultant immediately but he was off. I spoke to

Interesting discussion on supplements from ZOE
Here is a podcast or transcript of it that others may find useful in deciding what to spend their precious pennies on after an expert discusses large, long range studies. For those who have neither the time nor the brain today, it was a thumbs up to a multivitamin, vitamin D (not large doses!), omega

PMR/Prednisolone/Alendronic Acid
Thank you all for your posts and will now try to reduce even more slowly. !5 mg of Prednisolone was not enough, so have now increased to 17.5mg and are again keeping fingers crossed. Would welcome views on long term (nearly 5 years) usage of Alendronic acid (I am male 79 years old) as I think that in

Osteoporosis treatment
I have recently been diagnosed with PBC and am taking 1000mg ursodeoxycholic acid daily. I just had a routine bone density done and it resulted that I have osteopenia in my hips and osteoporosis in my spine. Doctor prescribed 2 Osteocare daily plus Bisphosphonate Acid once I have a bill of good dental

Restless Legs Syndrome
I have RLS and take codeine 15mg at night. My ferritin level got too high last year so no longer on iron supplements. Wondering how successful ALA is and if it is what dose and what time to take it. Thanks in advance

Weight gain and osteoporosis
I am in great discomfort because I have developed severe osteoporosis in the spine. I have compression fractures in three areas of the thoracic spine (T10, T11 and T12) and one area of the lumbar spine ( L1). I was diagnosed with GCA in September 2022 and have been on high doses of steroids until very

I figured out how to tolerate antibiotics (trimethoprim in this case) without huge neuropathic pain flare!! (for real this time!)
I've been posting about this on and off all year trying to get some answers. Anyway, I'll keep it short. I've been unable to tolerate Trimethoprim or Doxycycline without the both causing unbearable neuropathic pain (burning, stinging, tingling, etc). I tried multiple times and failed to continue after
