How does synthetic t4 convert to the active t3 after a thyroidectomy?
Is it the same place & way if one still has their thyroid? Ie. When you all note that hormones given replace the thyroid, not top it up if the thyroid is still in place, does it then not matter if one has a thyroid for this mechanism? (Not discussing taking anyone's thyroid without obvious dire need

GP not doing regular thyroid bloods.
How often should gp do thyroid bloods please? My main thyroid problem is fatigue, it’s not there all the time, comes and goes. So, I would like them done every 8 weeks, as I try different combos of Levo, T3 and Thyroid S, till I feel better. However, mine doesn’t do anything at all until I chase her

What to do?
I have tried to take 100 Levothyroxine but I felt horrible. Would you recommend lowering Levothyroxine to 75 and adding 5 or perhaps 5+5 liothyronine? On 87.5 t4 TSH 0.23(0.4-4.2) Ft3 4.2 (3.5-6.5) Ft4 15 (12-23)

Did I mess up my blood tests?
Yesterday I went to have blood tests after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism a month ago. I took 25mcg of levythyroxine (?) before having the test but have now read on here that I shouldn't have done this? My TSH levels were 9.5 last month but are now back to normal but maybe this is why? I am in

New paper linking mineral uptake and autoimmune thyroiditis.
This excellent paper (available) relates the value of minerals (well known to TUK) on thyroid function. No surprises but a handy lever to convince doctors of minerals' importance in AIT therapy. There are several papers in this research topic, and this can lead onto their access.

No luck with GP
Hello you knowledgeable lot Armed with your advice i had a telecon with GP yesterday having requested by econsult a rise in levo from 75 to 100. I was quite upset (or much ruder words) by the end. He was at home and clearly had two small children with him chattering and playing which I found hugely

Help new to this.
Really struggling. Started feeling unwell post Covid November 2023. Fatigued to the point of feeling like wading through treacle. Weight gain. Severe pain in shoulder and right heel to the point can’t walk some days. Ectopic heart beats that left me dizzy and faint. Constipation. And strange feeling

Back to life thanks to this forum! GP Next steps though - further levo increase?
You've been so helpful. Your collective knowledge has led to a diagnosis of (ords) hashimotos, my levo being upped to 75mg and I'm pain free for the first time in 5 YEARS! Thank you. I feel alive again. I armed myself with printed NICE guidelines and facts/ research and GP didn't resist this time and

Test results and what to ask my GP
I had routine bloods done last week mainly because of high cholesterol. My results showed not just high cholesterol, but also: Serum TSH 8.7 Serum free T4 12.8 So there's a note about me being subclinical hypothyroid and another about statins. So I'm guessing the GP is just going to want to put me

ft3 and t3 the same thing?
hi is Ft3 the same thing as T3? I think here in Scotland we only measure Tsh and t4, t3 (I think) at a push if requested but hard to get at GP. In England is it Ft3 I’ve seen on posts. That’s why I’m asking if they’re the same measurement. I’d like to know how well I’m converting and if not if I can

Speaking to GP tomorrow - which symptoms should I emphasise
I think I am undermedicated with results: Serum TSH level 2.41 mIU/L [0.27 - 4.2] Serum free T4 level 16.7 pmol/L [12.0 - 22.0] Especially as I forgot and took my 50 levothyroxine an hour before the test (numpty) They are against me being on levothyroxine as I can't have any symptoms at that TSH

need guidance
Hello all, I'm new here. I was researching and came across this group. I'm asking for advice actually for my daughter. Here is the story. My daughter as a child was slightly overweight at age of puberty. When she was about 20, we went to a dr who ordered a thyroid US. Results multi nodules. No big concern

Overmedicated for Graves
Good morning , Please if you can could you help advise me how to ease some of my symptoms .I will be very grateful . On my last blood test my TSH increased from 0.32 to 3.47 and it is assumed by the Endo that I’m over medicated. I was for 10 weeks on 10 mg of Carbimazole and the dose was reduced from
