Bit disappointed in this response from a consultant

GP says my dose of levothyroxine is good (50) with levels around Serum TSH level 2.23 mIU/L [0.27 - 4.2]

Serum free T4 level 17.1 pmol/L [12.0 - 22.0]

I said I wanted to trial more so she suggested checking with a consultant who replied thus:

And I'm a bit disappointed 😞

And I haven't yet done research to look at what cortisol is about

You need to get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing

Looking at previous posts you have Hashimoto’s and EDS

What vitamin supplements are you taking

When were vitamin levels last tested

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you did the test

Free T4 (fT4) 17.1 pmol/L (12 - 22)

Ft4 only  51.0% through range

So plenty of room for dose increase

Initially to 62.5mcg daily

Retest again in another 8-10 weeks

Likely ready for further increase to 75mcg by then

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

He is dosing you by TSH alone, showing his ignorance. The general healthy population TSH is around 1, but most of us with thyroid problems feel better below 1. Your TSH suggests you are underdosed in my opinion. He does not appear to have tested your T3, which is what every cell in the body uses.

Have a read of this: thyroidpatients.ca/2021/07/...

and have a browse here:- helvella.blogspot.com/p/hel...

Oddles of brilliant information. Just take your time and read through what grabs you- you will have more information than your so called consultant.

Personally I would go back to your GP and ask for a full thyroid test (with T3) and a vitamin panel. Best wishes.
