Controlling augmentation and impulse control issues
He was prescribed
naltrexone
for a separate issue but found that after he started
naltrexone
he was able to half his dose of mirapexin from 1mg to 0.5mg (he states himself that he was severely augmented at that stage).

Low-Dose Naltrexone [LDN].
Naltrexone
was developed for drug users. It blocks opioid receptors & prevents a high. It was "approved by the FDA in 1984 in a 50mg dose for the purpose of helping heroin or opium addicts" [2].

LDN ?
Is anyone taking or looked into LDN ( low dose
naltrexone
) ? It helps with Cancers and inflammation as well as auto-immune. My hemeatologist said it might help bring platelets down. I’ve been trying for a few months , so far I have more energy and less side effects from HU.

Update Depression...,
Asked him if I could try LDN - NO he's says 'it's a drug used to treat drug addicts' - I said yes but that's high dose
naltrexone
. Well he said its not part of their guidelines and he does not know any Rheumatologists that treat PMR with
Naltrexone
. Weird - I thought I was paying him.

Upcoming USA study for LDN and arthritis pain
I was interested to see that there's a clinical trial protocol (not yet recruiting) in the USA to assess LDN (low dose
naltrexone
) for the relief of arthritis pain (osteoarthritis; rheumatoid, and psoriatic).

New Rheumatologist
Also was not opposed to the LDN (Low Dose
Naltrexone
) but could not give me a prescription for it. Suggested I take a lowish dose of ant inflammatory when I need - for pain - if for instance when Ive overdone it s bit He has given me a tapering protocol. All round I feel better for seeing him.
